An exciting opportunity has arisen for a senior nurse or midwife to join the Medicines Management and Pharmacy Services Nursing Team as the Lead Nurse.

The MMPS Nursing Team is committed to empowering patients and staff by promoting medicines safety and standards through collaboration, education and assurance. We are looking for an experienced nurse or midwife to provide visible leadership, strategic guidance and positive role-modelling to enable the team to achieve their goal.

We are looking for a pro-active and organised nurse or midwife who is patient focused and dedicated to supporting and enabling a high standard of care for patients. Flexibility, attention to detail, excellent interpersonal skills and being able to use your own initiative will help you thrive within this role.

The MMPS Nursing Team covers all clinical areas across the organisation. Therefore, the successful candidate will have the opportunity to travel to all LTHT sites and develop working relationships with a wide variety of clinical specialties. The ability to connect with a wide variety of colleagues is essential in the success of this role.

The successful candidate will work closely with the Head of Nursing for MMPS in providing assurance of safety in relation to medicines to the Chief Pharmacist and Chief Nurse.

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will:

Improve the optimisation of medicines across the organisation.

Positively influence practice in CSUs to ensure best practice is embedded in clinical areas.

Develop Nursing Policies and Clinical Guidelines.

Develop, implement and maintain clinical systems which support the safe administration of medicines, including integration into the everyday ward management of monitoring and evaluating care standards.

Co-ordinate the delivery of formal training and education related to medicines across LTHT, including Corporate induction, Intravenous medicines and Electronic systems related to medicines.

Be responsible for a team of nurses that will work in support of wards and clinical areas to assure the delivery of LTHT Standards of Care.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY

CLINICAL

Lead in the development, implementation and monitoring of Medicines across LTHT.

To participate in and influence medicines safe handling and management developments across all CSUs, supporting Heads Of Nursing in opportunities to use technology and advancements such as scan for safety

To support and direct nursing, midwifery and AHP elements of medicine policy in relation to the medicines code and all other medicines related policies at LTHT Work in supporting Matrons and Senior Sisters/Charge Nurses to address issues in clinical areas.

Working with the Head of Nursing and acting as the lead when communicating highly complex, sensitive or contentious information within the CSU where there may be significant barriers to acceptance which need to be overcome using developed interpersonal and communication skills. This may include presenting complex, sensitive or contentious information to a large group of staff.

Actively seek and identify opportunities for new ways of working to improve safety, efficiency, and high standards in the delivery of medicines.

Working with the Head of Nursing to explore options to address areas of improvement in a range of projects, actively seeking and identify opportunities for new ways of working to improve the efficiency of the service. This includes benchmarking against organisations in a range of settings and providing data and reports following the analysis of trends.

Ensure that patient experience is included in all aspects of medicines management within MMPS.

To maintain professional and clinical credibility.

Act in accordance with the Nursing & Midwifery Code of Conduct.

LEADERSHIP

Support the Head of Nursing for MMPS in the delivery of an enhanced, robust system for monitoring and reporting key standards in relation to medicines optimisation. Lead and promote change in nursing and clinical practice in order to improve staff and patient experience via projects delegated by the Head of Nursing for MMPS.

Provide a positive role model to nursing staff and ensure involvement and participation of staff groups such as Nursing & Midwifery Operational group.

EDUCATION

Lead the team of MMPS Nurses to deliver support and supervision to clinical areas in the pursuit of the highest standards of care in relation to medicines.

To co-ordinate the delivery of formal training and education related to medicines across LTHT. This is to include Corporate induction, Intravenous medicines, Electronic systems related to medicines.

MANAGEMENT

Provide reports to the Head of Nursing for MMPS on the progress and implementation of the projects related to medicines, including written and verbal reports.

Provide line management for the members of the MMPS Nursing team.

Working with the Head of Nursing to monitor expenditure and ensure value for money at all times. Contributing to the drawing up of department/service budgets and financial initiatives which includes responsibility for authorising expenditure and accountable for expenditure within an allocated budget for specific projects, ensuring these are delivered on time, within budget and to excellent standards, maximising the use of budgets and ensuring value for money. To deputise for the Head of Nursing for MMPS as required.
