We have an exciting opportunity to work alongside the current Lead Nurses for the Yorkshire & Humber Children, Teenage & Young Adult Cancer Clinical Network (YHCTYAC) as a Senior Clinical Educator. This is a fixed term 1 year contract, 0.6 wte post.

The Senior Clinical Educator for the YHCTYAC Clinical Network will be responsible for leading clinical education and associated resources across the Network. Drawing from their knowledge and experience as a senior cancer nurse, they will act as a role model, enabling and supporting the development of interdisciplinary and network working to ensure the sharing of good practice and delivery of high quality, effective and efficient care to children and young people with cancer.

Main duties of the job

The post-holder will work with the Network Executive Group, Network Manager, Network member organisations, Lead nurses for Children and Teenagers and Teenage and Young Adults, and Lead Clinician(s) as part of a multi- disciplinary strategic team, to ensure delivery of high quality equitable services for children and young people aged 0-24 inclusive with cancer across the Yorkshire and Humber region.

The post holder will work with the Lead Nurses and nursing teams across the Network to support the development and implementation of a training and education strategy, to enable the requirements of the national service standards and specifications for Childrens and TYA cancer to be met.

Job responsibilities

The job holder will play a lead role in ensuring the development of clinical staff both registered and unregistered. The job holder will enable the development of clinical practice mentors, assessors and key trainers, providing supervision through on-site support and network wide continuous professional development activities. The post holder will be responsible for leading clinical education and associated resources across the YHCTYA Cancer Clinical Network. The successful candidate will provide a high standard of education.

The job holder will support the assessment of the quality of clinical and other practice learning environments, and implement interventions for improvement. The job holder will support mentors and assessors and ensure clinical professional development for preceptorship and other role developments. They will enhance the quality of care delivery from both the registered and unregistered workforce. The post holder may be line managing a junior clinical educator depending on the clinical service unit.

You will be expected to lead the nursing contribution to service development, ensuring the pursuit of excellence in care. The job holder will lead on the implementation and monitoring of adherence to relevant clinical guidelines, audit and research. They will function as a role model for registered and unregistered staff within the network and Trusts, enabling and supporting the development of interdisciplinary and network working to ensure the sharing of good practice and delivery of high quality, effective and efficient care.

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential

  • Registered Child nurse
  • Recognised teaching/assessing qualification - Post Graduate Certificate in Clinical Education (or equivalent / working towards)
  • Masters degree or post graduate level development equivalent to a masters


Experience

Essential

  • Significant experience in a junior leadership role eg Band 6 or equivalent Working with a wide range of professionals including medical, nursing and management colleagues
  • Clinical Experience within childrens.
  • Audit and standard setting
