Main duties of the job

University Hospital Southampton (UHS) is a large, acute teaching hospital with strong values that put our patients first. Within UHS, the cardiovascular and thoracic (CV& T) care group is widely regarded as a centre of excellence, delivering exceptional patient care across all our services.

As part of CV& T, our large perfusion team works for multiple patient pathways to support this approach to patient care and outcomes we are looking to recruit an enthusiastic clinical leader to carry on the outstanding leadership of this service. Currently, the cardiac team undertakes 1800 adults and 400 paediatric procedures per year across our five cardiac theatres with a workforce of 18+ perfusionists and trainees.

Job description

Job responsibilities

WHAT YOULL DO

You will be responsible and accountable for the day-to-day management of the Perfusion service and provide leadership within the department, ensuring compliance against national standards and trust performance metrics.You will lead the professional development of the service and the profession, including the implementation and development of relevant Trust guidelines, training and development of the perfusion team and other staff (as appropriate) as well as recruitment and retention initiatives.Take a key responsibility for service development, ensuring delivery of a highly effective and efficient service.

WHAT WERE LOOKING FORAn experienced perfusionist from a relevant clinical background with a passion for leadership, efficiency and constant improvement. The successful candidate will be conversant with cardiac surgical techniques performed on neonatal, paediatric and adults, including cell salvage, point of care blood analysis, ECMO, Percutaneous Hepatic perfusion and research.You must be accredited by the Society of Perfusionists of Great Britain & Ireland and registered with the College of Clinical Perfusionists of Great Britain & IrelandEvidence of leading service development and changeAn ability to work with the wider multi-disciplinary team across the whole of the cardio-vascular and thoracic care group and colleagues from other care groups.

  • First degree or equivalent
  • Masters
  • Full registration with the College of Perfusion
