The podiatry service is looking for a motivated, enthusiastic practitioner to support our MSK service.The role is based in the small but very friendly service in West Wales.Hywel Dda podiatry service has a very successful record in developing and supporting staff into many new and innovative roles and you will be supported in all aspects of your career.

We have a fully comprehensive CMATs service, five ultrasonograher trained podiatrists , MIU service and we undertake all the available interventions available for a modern service.

Main duties of the job

To work within the specialist Msk service. Engaging in assessment and appropriate diagnostics for a specialist practitioner within this arena. There is an opportunity that the practitioner will develop their skillset in plain view interpretation, cortico- steroid injection therapy with a development programme opportunity to further your career with a potential move into Consultant and CMAT services.

Job responsibilities

Undertake clinical assessment, which includes the assimilation of information from a wide range of sources. Modes of assessment include neurological, vascular, and pathological investigation sources. For example taking swabs and samples for pathological investigations and acting on the results i.e. obtaining the appropriate antibiotic for a wound infection. An ability to organize the appropriate radiology and haematology requests when necessary and ensure that results are followed up and acted on appropriately.

Person Specification

Qualifications and Knowledge

Essential

  • Assurance of professional knowledge as evidenced by 1st degree level qualification or equivalent
  • Postgraduate qualifications in specialist courses and training as necessary up to diploma level
  • Competent to apply local anaesthesia techniques as Certified under the medicines Act 1968
  • Registered with HPC Evidence of attendance on relevant core CPD courses.


Desirable

  • Member of Society of Podiatrists
  • Active participation/ member of clinical network specialist interest group
  • Completion of postgraduate education or equivalent in clinical field


Experience

Essential

  • Postgraduate experience to include completion of rotational competencies programmes within all highly specialist clinics, such as Rheumatology, Tissue viability, Diabetes, Podopaediatrics, Musculoskeletal and Surgical Appliances.
  • Experience of the particular problems associated with the rheumatoid and diabetic foot. Experience in the gait analysis and Musculoskeletal problems of both children and adults.
  • Experience of specialist footwear and ankle/foot orthosis.
  • Experience of the range of treatments and products currently being used in tissue viability including plaster casting
  • Experience of having supervised and managed staff who are directly accountable to the post holder
  • Experience of managing a complex caseload which would include any foot or foot related condition and having the experience to be able to know when to refer on. For example this would include recognising peripheral vascular disease, leading to tissue necrosis and gangrene or being able to recognise clinical infection and recommend/undertake the correct course of action including antibiotics or further investigations, offloading, differential diagnosis.
