We are advertising for an innovative new 3 year fixed term Consultant Child and Adolescent Psychiatry post.

This full-time (10 session) position will be based in our National and Specialist Services at the Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS) at South London and Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust (SLaM), in collaboration with the NHS Children and Young People's Gender Service (London)

We are looking for a colleague to join us in the Autism Related Disorders (ARD) team, which is part of the well established Service for Complex Autism and Associated Neurodevelopmental Disorders (SCAAND) and the newly established Children and Young People's Gender Service (London)

Main duties of the job

The successful applicant will join the other consultant psychiatrists in ARD and a very experienced multi-disciplinary team which have been doing assessments, consultations and interventions for children and young people with complex neurodevelopmental presentations. SCAAND is a leader in the field of autism and neurodevelopmental disorders for children and young people and has strong links with the Institute of Psychiatry, Psychology and Neuroscience (IoPPN) for generation of research and innovation.

In addition, the successful applicant will also provide consultant psychiatrist leadership and expertise within the Children and Young People's Gender Service (London), as part of a multi disciplinary team including paediatricians, psychologists, psychiatrists and a range of other health professionals. The service aims to deliver multi-disciplinary assessment and a range of care interventions including psychological therapy in line with the Cass Review recommendations.

The CAMHS Directorate is made up of six clinical units: National & Specialist Services, Inpatient and Crisis Services, Borough based services of Lambeth, Southwark, Lewisham and Croydon.

As well as providing a range of services to local children, some teams provide specialist tertiary services to children and adolescents throughout the country. Our inpatient provision includes the two Adolescent Units at the Maudsley Hospital and the Bethlem and the Bethlem Adolescent PICU, which come under the South London Partnership (SLP).

Following the Cass Review recommendations, the Children and Young People's Gender Service (London) is being delivered by a partnership of Evelina London Children's Hospital (part of Guy's and St Thomas' NHS Foundation Trust), Great Ormond Street Hospital and the South London and Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust.
