We are looking to recruit enthusiastic and motivated Band 5 Mental Health Nurses/AHPs to join our Adult Inpatient Mental Health wards. In return for your commitment and enthusiasm, working within the unique Adult 3-3-3 inpatient system will give you the opportunity to practice a full range of core mental health nursing skills and to also teach, supervise and support colleagues.

About the team: Our adult mental health inpatient ward 3-3-3 model is an innovative redesign of acute mental health inpatient care. Time-limited inpatient pathways for assessment (#3 days), treatment (#3 weeks), and recovery (#3 months) replace traditional acute wards. Mulberry 2 is our 16-bed assessment and treatment ward in Fulbourn and our focus is on providing care which is structured, planned and meaningful in an environment which allows patients to be supported by a range of staff whose main goal is to empower and involve patients and their loved ones in care

Main duties of the job

About the role: The ideal candidate will have a commitment to teamwork, a sense of accountability, plus an ability to work under pressure. The poster holder will provide quality evidence-based nursing advice, support and care for service users with mental and physical health needs and to their carers within a multidisciplinary setting. They will be responsible for the assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of nursing care, and will have a working knowledge of local, national policies and legislation which govern current service provision.

The post holder will be responsible for identifying and contributing to the training needs of junior registered and unregistered staff and ensure that issues of equality, diversity and rights are dealt with in accordance with good practice and legislation. They will ensure that effective communication pathways exist, and that they act within their sphere of responsibility, managing the shift in the absence of the Ward Manager or the designated deputy.

To carry out a full range of registered nurse duties, including assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of the patients condition and care with support from the nurse in charge.

To establish therapeutic relationships with service users, and the implementation of evidence based therapeutic interventions with appropriate boundaries in accordance with NMC professional code of conduct.

To understand NICE quality standards and guidance relevant to area of practice and patient group.

To prioritise nursing care, recognise deterioration in a patients condition and alert senior staff immediately.

Participate in the health education and explanation of treatment to patients and relatives.

Maintain a safe environment when caring for patients, including those requiring enhanced levels of monitoring.

To promote involvement of service users, carers, and relatives within the service and for its provision.

Person Specification Education & Qualifications Essential
  • Registered Nurse Mental Health (RNMH) or Registered Nurse Learning Disability (RNLD)
  • NMC registration
  • Post graduate qualification relating to ward specialism
Experience Essential
  • Experience of in-patient services and working as part of a multi-disciplinary team
  • Working with people with mental health difficulties/learning disability
  • Managing challenging behaviour
  • Experience of providing mentorship
  • Experience relating to ward specialism
  • Lived experience of mental health
  • Experience of providing individual, culturally sensitive care
