We are looking to recruit a Highly Specialist SLT (Band 7) to lead our SLT service in Scotland under the guidance of the Director of SLT and Deputy Operations Director. The team support with a learning disability and /or autistic people. Some individuals may have physical and mental health needs.

Main duties of the job

The post itself will be based 3 days per week at Cygnet Wallace Hospital in Dundee holding a caseload of 10 individuals. The remaining two days per week will offer SLT supervision, support and leadership to the Cygnet residential services (5) who are supported by a full time Band 5 SLT; you will be expected to oversee the eating, drinking feeding and swallowing caseload in the residential homes. Expenses for travel and accommodation are payable in line with policy.

Job Role:

As a Highly Specialist /Lead Speech and Language Therapist, you will have a unique opportunity to lead on the development and delivery of an evidence-based SLT service to meet the needs of the complex client group within a hospital setting; you will also oversee the assessment and management of all individuals with eating, drinking, feeding and swallowing needs across the hospital and residential services (5).

Working as part of a multi-disciplinary team, you will use expert skills to assess, advise and intervene with the aim of promoting functional communication systems and optimal independence. You will be able to train others, promote good practice and maintain a successful total communication environment. You will be accountable to the Director of Speech and Language Therapy and the Deputy Operations Director for Scotland.

We are looking for a Speech and Language Therapist with:
  • Strong clinical and professional skills
  • Working experience/strong interest in the field of Learning Disabilities /Autism Spectrum Disorders / Mental Health Conditions.
  • Knowledge of key national drivers.
  • Qualification in Dysphagia management essential
  • Evidence of providing clinical supervision.
  • Evidence of being a strong team player with a genuine desire to help others.
  • Enthusiasm, motivation and passion.
