Join our therapy led Own Bed Instead teamthat consists of AHPs (Allied Health Professionals) and works in conjunction with Dudley Clinical Hub, providing urgent community response to prevent unnecessary admissions to hospital. You will lead the team, act as a role model, encouraging a shared vision and provide highly skilled clinical expertise.

This role is suitable for an occupational therapist or physiotherapist who is passionate, driven, and dynamic in their approach, with extensive knowledge in rehabilitation, assessment, and treatment of individuals with complex conditions. The role will involve working closely with the MDT and organisational partners to drive the service forward to deliver on the ethos of 'Community First, Hospital when Necessary.'

Main duties of the job

To be responsible for day-to-day management of a team of Occupational therapists, physiotherapists and therapy assistant practitioners within the Own Bed Instead service within Dudley.

To be an expert therapist in the provision of admission avoidance/rehabilitation to a caseload of adult patients with a variety of conditions, to avoid hospital admission, and facilitate safe discharge from hospital.

To lead the multi-disciplinary team to ensure effective and efficient assessment of complex conditions and rehabilitation services are provided.

To provide leadership, training, supervision and appraisals for more junior staff.

To work collaboratively with other services within Dudley, such as West Midlands Ambulance Service, DGFT, Dudley local authority and other community services to ensure a seamless transition of care.

Qualifications & Education

Essential

  • BSc degree in physiotherapy or occupational Therapy or Equivalent
  • Masters level qualification or modules or sufficient comparable experience of advance therapy practice
  • Registered with HCPC


Knowledge and Training

Essential

  • Extensive experience of working with complex patients requiring rehabilitation
  • Knowledge of rehabilitation at postgraduate level
  • Excellent knowledge of legislation, clinical guidelines and governance and the ability to develop and organise the therapy service in accordance with these


Desirable

  • Practice Educators Qualification
  • Leadership and management training


Experience

Essential

  • Experience of effectively managing complex patients with a variety of conditions such as frailty, falls, existing long-term conditions and multiply comorbidities
  • Comprehensive experience of multi-disciplinary working
  • Documented evidence of CPD

  • Experience of Student and junior staff supervision

Physical Skills

Essential

  • Experience of using patient information computer systems. To be fully IT literate, including accurate keyboard, word processing and data inputting skills
  • Ability to engage in the safe moving and handling practices with patients and equipment
  • Able to independently travel to meet the needs of the job. This includes being able to carry large pieces of equipment and falls response equipment and being able to respond within the 2hr urgent community response time frame. Note - public transport will not support all areas covered across the borough.
