The Lead Neuromuscular Nurse will lead and support a team of Band 7 Neuromuscular Clinical Nurse Specialists as well as providing direct line management. A leadership role as well as clinical, the post holder will be expected to nurture diverse talent as well as provide clear leadership and a passion for innovation and service improvement.

Main duties of the job

The role will support patients with inflammatory neuropathies receiving treatment with Intravenous Human Immunoglobulin infusions (IVIg) or Immunosuppressant medications. They will work within a multidisciplinary team of consultants, physiotherapists, pharmacists and clinical fellows to provide excellent clinical care. The post-holder will provide face to face and virtual support for patients receiving these treatments, and will also hold telephone clinics independently, they will attend multidisciplinary clinics (consultant led) to review and monitor patients. They will be able to accurately record and interpret patient outcome measures to be submitted to NHS England.

The post holder will be actively involved in collecting and auditing data from the service and use this to improve and develop the service. They will train and educate patients to self-infuse at home with both subcutaneous immunoglobulin and intravenous immunoglobulin. They will be able to review patients' blood test monitoring and identify anomalies safely and act accordingly, they will be able to provide up to date and relevant patient information about these medications

Knowledge and Qualifications

Essential

  • Registered Nurse (Adult)
  • Relevant post-registration programme
  • Teaching/Assessment programme
  • Non-Medical Prescriber


Desirable

  • Completed/completing master's degree.
  • Previous experience in Leadership role


Knowledge and Qualifications

Essential

  • Minimum 3 years' relevant post registration experience in same specialty
  • Demonstrates up to date knowledge and expertise in the specialty.
  • Evidence of developing & leading nurse led clinics / services.
  • Evidence of ability to work collaboratively autonomously.
  • Knowledge of key professional issues and NMC guidelines relating to professional practice
  • Able to respond appropriately to accident or untoward clinical incidents.
  • Participate in and comply with UCLH, and Divisional clinical governance frameworks.
  • Evidence of continuing professional development
  • Previous experience of formal & informal teaching of patients & staff


Desirable

  • Previous experience of developing standards, guidelines, and policies
  • Experience in acting as a clinical supervisor and mentor
  • Previous experience in budgetary management
  • Innovative approach to service Delivery and change
