We are excited to offer a permanent position for a Clinical Psychologist to cover two of our mental health wards in The Bay-one in Lancaster and one in Kendal, both wards are currently mix sex and cover the range of mental health presentations. The post holder will be an integral and valued team member with the support of a Consultant Clinical Psychologist and other multidisciplinary colleagues, including Nurses, Occupational Therapists, Social Workers, Psychiatrists and support workers. You will receive weekly clinical supervision from a Clinical Psychologist.

Main duties of the job

An interest in working with individuals with a range of presentations across the lifespan will be essential, and this post aims to foster skills in working within a multidisciplinary framework. The post will also sit as part of a team of psychological practitioners working within The Bay area (Lancaster and Morecambe and South Cumbria), and the successful applicant will be welcomed as part of a service which will encourage the development of specific interests and will value further career development.

Further training will be considered relevant to your role, and you will be supported and encouraged to develop your own area of research relevant to the role.

Qualifications

Essential

• Doctorate in Clinical Psychology or equivalent for those who trained prior to 1996, including specifically models of psychopathology, clinical psychometrics and neuropsychology, two or more distinct psychological therapies and lifespan developmental psychology as accredited by the BPS.

Knowledge

Essential

• An increased level of knowledge relevant to this post equivalent to a post-graduate diploma (in addition to entry level qualification)
• Skills in the use of complex methods of psychological assessment, intervention and management frequently requiring sustained and intense concentration.
• Well developed skills in communicating effectively, orally and in writing, complex, highly technical and/or clinically sensitive information to clients, their families, carers and other professional colleagues both within and outside the NHS.

Experience

Essential

• Experience of specialist psychological assessment and treatment of patients across a range of care settings, including outpatient, community, primary care and in patient settings.
• Experience of working with a wide variety of patient groups, across the whole life course presenting problems that reflect the full range of clinical severity including maintaining a high degree of professionalism in the face of highly emotive and distressing problems, verbal abuse and the threat of physical abuse.
• Demonstrable evidence of a continuing commitment to developing expertise in psychological assessment and intervention
