New opportunities have arisen for Band 5 Staff Nurses to join the Critical Care team based at Northwick Park Hospital/CMH London NorthWest University Healthcare NHS Trust.
Based within the London North West University Healthcare Trust, this post will be primarily concerned with the direct care of critically ill adults being nursed in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU).
The post-holder will have mainly clinical responsibilities although teaching at the bedside may also be required. The emphasis of the post will always be to deliver the highest possible standard of care to patients.
The post-holder will be expected to broaden their knowledge of the care of critically ill patients through participation in development programs and post basic courses
Main duties of the job
The Critical Care Unit consists of a currently expanding 24 bedded Intensive Care Unit. The Critical Care Unit also operate a 24/7 Critical Outreach service, supportingpatients throughout the hospital as well as supporting teaching and training. The inpatient IHD service also sits under our umbrella and opportunities are available for staff rotation to support this new and developing team.
As a Critical Care Unit, we are specialising in providing a high standard of care for patients undergoing a variety of procedures. The majority of the admissions are medically based, covering level 2 and level 3 patients requiring organ support such as Respiratory, Cardiovascular and Renal.We also work closely with other Specialist Units around the UK such as Respiratory and Renal support Units.

Clinical Responsibilities
Provides direct patient care under supervision to critically ill adults within the ICU Will be developing specialist skills in the care of critically ill patients to include assessment, delivery and evaluation of care.
Ensures the implementation of protocols and guidelines within own nursing practice. Facilitating the delivery of high quality evidence based care while working in close relationship with the ICU MDT
Will assist ICU lecturer practitioner by acting as coach to students or other health care workers (HCW) attached to the ICU
Leadership and Management
Participates in the development of knowledge, ideas and work practices within ICU.
Accepts a positive culture towards a standard of competence in own practice.
Reports any deficiencies in equipment or supplies to the shift leader in a timely manner.
Reports untoward incidents/complaints to the shift leader and using the Trusts reporting system.
Ensures the maintenance of a safe working environment for self and others.
Contributes to the retention of staff within ICU.
