An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the well-established NUH Infection Prevention and Control Team. We are looking to recruit a motivated, enthusiastic specialist biomedical scientist with experience in medical microbiology who wants to make a positive difference to join the Infection Prevention and Control Team.
You will lead a complex programme in environmental sampling and microbiological testing in the healthcare setting in conjunction with the Infection prevention and control Doctor. You would also support the decontamination lead on interpretation and implementation of national guidance.
The role is often varied and can be challenging at times. However, we know this will be offset by knowing you are doing such an important job in maintaining patient safety. You will receive outstanding support and guidance in a welcoming and enthusiastic environment.

Main duties of the job
The post holder will:
Lead a complex programme of environmental sampling and microbiological testing, in conjunction with the Infection Prevention and Control Doctor.
As the lead specialist, design and perform complex environmental microbiological testing based on principles that are research based and enhance the quality of infection prevention and control.
Advise the Trust Decontamination Lead on interpretation and implementation of nation guidance, acting as a change agent to support the risk based progression towards best practice.
Ensure specialist control measures are evidence based and targeted to efficiently and effectively manage outbreaks and other infection prevention and control related incidents. In certain circumstances, e.g. outbreaks of infection, duties may be required outside of normal working hours.
Lead the development and implementation of complex and highly specialist decontamination audits to achieve monitor and sustain compliance with approved codes practice.
Develop experience and expertise in infection control in the built environment, and how this impacts on the transmission of infection including decontamination, water management and specialist healthcare ventilation

Responsible for providing the specialist scientific lead in developing, managing and maintaining a quality infection prevention and control service in conjunction with the Clinical Lead Infection Prevention and Control and the Infection Prevention and Control Doctor, by the prevention, surveillance, investigation and control of infection within the healthcare setting.
