An opportunity has arisen for highly-motivated, caring and compassionate individuals to join our Band 6 team within the Emergency Department.

We are looking for individuals who have extensive experience in working in an Emergency Department who has excellent clinical and organisational skills and can provide leadership to the nursing team in order to ensure high quality care is delivered to our patients. The successful candidates will be required to take charge of the department on a day-to-day basis and coordinate flow of patients from arrival through to discharge or admission whilst ensuring patient safety and the sustainability of good staff morale. You will manage the department whilst upholding and promoting the Trust Values. Managerially the successful candidate will be expected to manage a team of staff and guide them in their personal and professional development. A proven role within a link group is essential and showing the implementation of change within the service. We have several permanent positions and a secondment position available.

We are committed to developing our nursing staff. We also offer access to Emergency Nurse Practitioner (ENP) and Advanced Clinical Practitioner (ACP) programmes. Staff will also have opportunities to complete PILS and APLS resuscitation courses. This job will also include research opportunities.

Main duties of the job

In liaison with the Senior Clinical Sister / Charge Nurse, participate in the management of patient care and lead patient flow through the Emergency Department on a shift basis. Be responsible for the day-to-day delivery of clinical care in the department and lead staff through their professional development.

Be an expert in their clinical nursing tasks, teaching and supporting junior team.

Qualifications

Essential

  • RSCN/RN child branch with at least 2 years experience
  • NMC Child Branch Current Registration
  • Teaching and assessing/mentoring qualification
  • PILS assessed


Desirable

  • APLS
  • Experience of performance managing staff
  • Working towards or completed HDU/PAS course


KNOWLEDGE & NATURE OF EXPERIENCE

Essential

  • Ability to recognize and act upon the need for immediate medical intervention
  • Comprehensive understanding and training in the management of child protection issues
  • Previous shift management and coordination experience
  • At least 2 years general medical experience
  • Ability to deal with conflict situations
  • Ability to understand and respond in emergencies


Desirable

  • At least two years post qualification paediatric experience to include ED/HDU/PICU/Complex Care/CCN


ANALYTICAL AND JUDGEMENT SKILLS

Essential

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a MDT team
  • Able to assess plan, implement and evaluate care for groups of patients


Desirable

  • Experience in IR1 investigation
  • Ability to initiate, manage and sustain change


PROFESSIONAL / MANAGERIAL / SPECIALIST KNOWLEDGE

Essential

  • High level of clinical skills to care for patients and support team development
