Main duties of the job

Following retirement, we are now seeking a new Director of Operations. Reporting to the Care Group Director and accountable to the Chief Operating Officer you will be responsible for the operational management and the delivery of our Urgent Care Group directorate's performance ensuring that these clinical services meet national and local standards and patient expectations. You will hold day to day responsibility and accountability for the operational management across urgent care services, including: AMU, Short Stay, ED, SDEC & OPE, Cardiology, Gastroenterology Ward, Gynaecology, ICU and Critical Care Outreach, Maternity, Paediatrics including Community Paediatrics, Radiology, Respiratory, Stroke, Virtual Hospital, Management of Emergency Planning Resilience and Responsive (deputising for Trust AO), Site Team and our newly created Single Point of Access Team.

Education / Qualifications

Essential

  • Educated to Master's level in relevant field or equivalent level of management experience
  • Evidence of continuing professional development


Desirable

  • MBA or relevant post graduate management qualification


Experience

Essential

  • Substantial recent management experience, at a senior level, in a complex organization
  • Experience of analysing and interpreting information to identify and manage variances in performance and identifying solutions to identified problem/areas for improvement
  • Significant experience & knowledge of business planning techniques and managing business processes
  • Significant experience of preparing and presenting high quality board level reports
  • Understanding of financial reporting mechanisms
  • Experience of and ability to analyse data and information to drive action for improvement
  • Track record of delivering large scale change programmes
  • Significant experience of leading and managing teams through change
  • Experience of developing and providing regular reports to managers and management committees, on progress against activity and other targets so that performance variances can be highlighted
  • Project management experience


Desirable

  • Experience of designing/ improving business systems & processes
  • Experience of working within the NHS within an acute hospital environment
  • Experience of working within a devolved management structure
  • Worked successfully in an influencing capacity with 'professionals'
  • Previous experience of coaching professionals and senior leaders
