We are a department of 9 theatres in 2 different sites with 2 more theatres planning to open soon within the hospital complex:

A standalone Centre of Excellence Orthopaedic Unit (BHOC) with 4 operating theatres and a recovery unit in Gateway Surgical Centre

Maternity Services and Main Theatres in the main hospital building with 5 operating theatres and a recovery unit have come together to provide day surgery cases, emergency procedures and specialist obstetric care.

We are seeking to recruit highly motivated enthusiastic Band 6 Anaesthetic Nurse/ ODP who is passionate about providing top-quality, first-class patient care as is expected from our Trust WeCare Values.

Registered Nurse with NMC pin / ODP with HCPC registration

Working pattern (hours): Long day (8-8), D (8-6), Night (2000-0800), weekends and bank holiday

Main duties of the job

As a member of the multi-disciplinary team in theatres, the post holder is:
  • To work collaboratively and cohesively with all members of the theatre team to ensure provision of highest possible level of individualised peri-operative care to patients.
  • Deemed to have the ability to perform all relevant duties and care without direct supervision and demonstrating effective time management.
  • . To support the Band 7 team leaders (Clinical coordinators) in managing the daily flow of theatre activity and take charge of the department when required to do so.
  • . To understand budgets, implementation of change management, workforce, roster management as these are integral part of being able to deputise for the band 7 team leaders.
  • To act as mentor and role model to less experienced colleagues by supporting their continuing professional development and overall performance

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential

  • RN 1(Registered Nurse) on the NMC registered with appropriate evidence of anaesthetic training and competency or Registered ODP on the HCPC register.
  • Mentorship qualification/ Practice supervision training.
  • Immediate Life Support


Experience

Essential

  • Demonstrates speciality experience in operating theatres and anaesthetics.
  • Experience in supervising students, support staff/others.
  • Experience and competent in the management of patients within the perioperative setting.


Desirable

  • Experience in managing and leading the team.
  • Understanding in managing the workforce i.e., Sickness management, roster management, Appraisal.
  • Experience in managing paediatric emergencies.


Knowledge

Essential

  • Evidence of professional/clinical knowledge in area supplemented by specialist clinical training and CPD.
  • Awareness of government led and professional issues relating to nursing/patient care.


Skills

Essential

  • Effective communication skills and ability to deal with sensitive information.
  • Ability to organise and plan own time and that of junior staffs and learners.
  • Ability to administer prescribed medications including blood products
  • Ability to motivate self & others
  • Ability to work unsupervised
  • Ability to manage and troubleshoot equipments
