We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced registered clinician to join Nottingham University Hospitals (NUH) digital team as a Clinical Safety Officer (CSO). As a CSO you will have a vital role in ensuring digital transformation is undertaken as safely and effectively as possible. To succeed in this role, you will have excellent interpersonal and leadership skills, to promote the role of clinical safety across multi-disciplinary teams.

Main duties of the job

You will work alongside a multi-disciplinary digital clinical team and be supported by the Chief Nursing Information Officer (CNIO) for NUH. The postholder is required to be a suitably qualified and experienced healthcare professional who holds and maintains current registration with an appropriate professional body relevant to their training and experience. Experience of working within a clinical safety role in an acute healthcare setting and knowledge of healthcare information technology systems is essential.

Job responsibilities

The Clinical Safety Officer (CSO) will work as part of a dynamic Chief Nursing Information Officer team. The post holder will have an extensive understanding of clinical safety and will be responsible for efficient and effective management of the Digital Clinical Safety on behalf of NUH. The role is responsible for providing leadership, guidance, support, specialist knowledge and clinical safety review and approval for the implementation of new digital solutions and upgrades to existing digital solutions across NUH. This includes the assessment of clinical safety issues in the implementation of IT software and hardware, including on-going management once transferred to live services ensuring all digital solutions conform to relevant national standards for clinical safety.

Person Specification

Training & Qualifications

Essential

  • oCurrent clinical professional registration
  • oDegree in a health-related subject
  • oEvidence of the delivery of large projects or similar
  • oEducated to Masters level or equivalent (level 7)
  • oExperienced Clinical Safety Officer with accredited qualification


Desirable

  • oProject management qualification, such as PRINCE II or Agile


Experience

Essential

  • oExperienced clinician with evidence of working effectively across a range of clinical settings within a MDT and including secondary care
  • oManagement and leadership experience
  • oAwareness and previous involvement in clinical digital safety and the processes involved.
  • oExperience as a CSO


Communication & Relationship skills

Essential

  • oAble to demonstrate a proven track record of successful working with different staff groups
  • oAble to demonstrate a positive team focus and effective leadership style which is adaptable dependent upon required situation.
  • oAbility to communicate to clinical and other non-informatics staff in an out-going, professional and confident manner, using persuasion, negotiation and training skills, to implement and train on clinical IT systems


Analytical & Judgement skills

Essential

  • oHighly developed knowledge of the acute care setting, with an understanding of the different services and roles involved in delivering care.


Planning & Organisational skills

Essential

  • oAble to plan and organise a range of complex activities, formulate and adjust plans and activities in accordance with short and long term goals


Physical skills

Essential

  • oExperience in producing high quality documentation including clinical safety assessments, hazard logs, action plans.
  • oExperience of management of significant contribution to complex IM& T projects


Desirable

  • oKnowledge of the Nervecentre EPR system
