Then we invite you to apply to work in our short stay unit for Adults with learning disabilities at Crook Lane in Winsford.

We have a Band 5 registered nurse vacancy for Learning Disability or Mental Health Nurse and full preceptorship will be given to those who are newly-qualified.

You will be working with adults with a learning disability as part of an enthusiastic and committed team. Admissions are short term for people with learning disability and complex needs.

As a key member of our short break service, you will develop person-centred plans and work closely with other members of the team to help individuals reach their potential.

Main duties of the job

You will be joining a Team, where person centred care is at the forefront of everything that we do. As a Staff Nurse you will be required to take charge of the shift and offer supervision sessions to the Clinical Support Workers.

You must be able to show care and compassion at all times whilst delivering an excellent service to each individual who uses our service. You must be able to maintain accurate and up to date records for all individuals in line with Trust Policy and National Legislation and Guidance.

The successful applicant will be encouraged to excel within their nursing role and we offer a number of development opportunities both internally through our education department and externally through a range of colleges and universities we are associated with.

The ideal candidate must have strong and positive values, be enthusiastic, have good communication skills and able to build effective working relationships within the team.

All new clinical support staff will be required to have completed or working towards the Care Certificate (CWP In-house 2 day training to be completed within 6 months of start date).

Please note applicants will be required to pay for their DBS check. Costs are deducted from salary following appointment.You are encouraged to enrol for the DBS Update Service. A small annual fee of £13 per year applies.

New entrants to the NHS will commence on the minimum of the scale stated above.

Person Specification Experience Essential
  • Had experience of working with adults with a Learning Disability, within a respite setting
  • Direct experience of working with clients with complex needs I.E. Challenging behaviour, epilepsy, mental health problems, continuing health care
  • Positive attitude to people with L.D
  • Awareness of current issues
  • Awareness of relevant legislation
  • Appreciation of governance
  • Participation in service developments
  • Experience in quality initiatives
Knowledge and Expertise Essential
  • Ability to asses/Plan/Evaluate care to clients and carers
  • Ability to direct and manage the work of others within the identified team
  • Support clients in crisis
  • Excellent record keeping
  • Ability to chair a meetings and lead a team E.G. CPA
  • Deliver training to other professionals and services
Desirable
  • Special interests related to current service developments
Qualifications Essential
  • First level nurse (having completed a period of preceptorship)
  • RNLD/RMN
  • Specific courses related to L.D
  • Demonstrate commitment to ongoing training
