An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Trainee Senior Audiological Hearing Therapist to join the caring, committed Audiology team at UHNM. Working both autonomously and as part of the team, you will utilise your previous experience and expertise as an Audiologist to deliver excellent patient care, contributing to positive patient outcomes throughout the specialist service of Complex Audiology and Hearing Therapy. The role is multifaceted, requiring assessment and rehabilitation skills in tinnitus, hyperacusis, misophonia, auditory processing disorder, balance disorders and working with patients with additional needs. For this reason, M-Level training will be provided for the suitable candidate.

Main duties of the job

  • To possess highly developed clinical skills and demonstrate adaptability to individuals with varying communication needs as well as being especially knowledgeable in Deaf Awareness.
  • To develop and sustain a therapeutic relationship with patients and enable patients and their families and/or carers to actively participate in their individual rehabilitation programmes.
  • To communicate complex, sensitive, or contentious information to patients and carers who may have additional disabilities and/or challenging behaviour. To communicate information to patients who may not use English as a first language and/or use BSL as a first language and therefore require an interpreter.
  • To use presentation skills at case reviews, meetings, and conferences. To demonstrate good negotiation skills in a multi-disciplinary or multi-agency environment.
  • To engage patients by using motivational and negotiation skills.
  • To be responsible for the everyday running and organisation of the specialist Hearing therapy service. To manage and prioritise a highly complex specialist Hearing Therapy clinic. To maintain managerial and clinical responsibility to Lead Audiologists.

Qualifications

Essential

  • BSc in Audiology
  • AHCS/HCPC Registered


Desirable

  • MSc In Rehabilitative Audiology
  • HTS in Therapeutic Skills or Tinnitus and counselling


Skills & Experience

Essential

  • Minimum of 3 years post registration experience
  • Experience of working with adults with learning disabilities.
  • Ability to deliver safe, effective counselling to patients with tinnitus and provide good clinical outcomes


Desirable

  • Posses indepth knowledge of assessment and rehabilitation techniques of adults with learning disabilities
  • Experience of planning, managing and evaluating rehabilitative programs for patients with balance disorders
