The successful candidate will be expected to organise and oversee the day-to-day delivery of anaesthetic and theatre service.

The successful candidate will be expected to work autonomously and provide high standers of patient care. They will work Monday to Sunday seven day a week also participate is night and on call rota. The selected candidate will be enthusiastic, motivated, and will be able to work within high pressured environments.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will be responsible for organizing and delivering nursing care in the peri-operative setting. They will lead a team of ODP/anaesthetic nurses and Healthcare assistants. They will work together with the specialty team leader and surgical team to develop and maintain excellence in peri-operative care. They will assist the nursing team when required.

JOB SUMMARY
  • To act as a team leader to an identified group of staff, monitoring and documenting the development of their clinical skills
  • Contribute to smooth running of the theatre
  • To establish, lead and maintain high standard of pre/peri and postoperative care
  • To contribute positively towards the delivery of a cost effective service, adjusting staffing levels to meet demand and assisting the clinical co-ordinators to keep within agreed resources

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Leadership and Managerial responsibilities
  • To assist with the ongoing organisation of the unit, includingresponsibility for a designated area of practice within department on a daily basis, to ensure optimal theatre utilisation at all times, facilitating timely admission and discharge of patients
  • To deputise in the absence of band 7 Lead Practitioner
  • Develop and monitor performance of junior staff within TheatresParticipate in the development of staff, ensuring appropriate skillmix and uphold agreed standards of care.
  • As appropriate, participate in disciplinary, grievance and absencemanagement procedure
  • To actively support the process of risk management and health & safety upholding relevant policies to promote this and ensuringincidents are reported appropriately (in writing) and helping identifyways of preventing errors and accidents to both patients and staff.
  • To participate in the allocation of staff in designated area ofresponsibility, producing the allocation of staff
  • To participate in the on call rota

Patient Care delivery
  • Assist clinicians during anaesthetic and surgical interventions.To coordinate and delegate tasks appropriately.
  • Manage Theatre list over a span of shift/duty.
  • Ensure effective communication with Clinicians and other staffin Theatres, wards and other department.
  • Assess and plan care within a professional f r a m e w o r k and evaluate care implemented.
  • Ensure a safe environment within the department for patients and staff.
