Are you looking for a new challenge with? Do you want to make the difference to the lives of children in young people with epilepsy? An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced, innovative and motivated Children's Registered Nurse to join our expert Children's Epilepsy Nursing Team.

We are looking for a dynamic and motivated individual with Epilepsy experience. You will be fully supported to develop existing and new skills working within frameworks of competence.

You will be joining an existing dedicated epilepsy team that continues to grow and develop alongside Paediatricians with a specialist interest in epilepsy, Community Paediatricians with a special interest in epilepsy, and the Paediatric Neurologists Consultants at Manchester Children's Hospital.

We provide a flexible 5 days service 8 or 6pm and are based in Longsight health Centre and Charlestown Health Centre. This is a 37.5-hour post, flexible working can be discussed at interview.

Main duties of the job

  • To apply specialist knowledge and skills to ensure ongoing care and safety to children/young people and their families with a diagnosis of epilepsy
  • To work as an autonomous practitioner with support from ACP, Paediatricians, Community Paediatricians and Neurology Team.
  • To manage a caseload of complex patients with a confirmed diagnosis of epilepsy
  • To act as a link between primary, secondary and tertiary care.
  • To design, implement, deliver and evaluate specialist education and training in support of other health and social care colleagues
  • To ensure effective delivery and monitoring of Epilepsy care throughout the Trust by supporting multidisciplinary teams and by using advanced epilepsy and seizure medication knowledge and advanced communication skills
  • To promote and provide equity of access to specialist Epilepsy services across Manchester for all, promoting individual equality, diversity and rights. o To initiate, undertake and evaluate the development of Quality Improvement work within the Specialist Epilepsy service as well as research and clinical audit

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential

  • Registered Paediatric Nurse
  • Teaching and Assessing Certificate/ Mentorship
  • 1st level Degree/Specialist practitioner CCN


Desirable

  • Non medical prescriber
  • Leadership/ Management quaification


Knowledge

Essential

  • Experience working with children in young people with long term complex health conditions.
  • Family centered care


Desirable

  • Specialist interest/knowledge in childhood epilepsies
  • Experience in managing complex safeguarding issues.


Training and experience

Essential

  • Minimum of 3 years post registration
  • Evidence of continuing professional development
  • Leadership


Desirable

  • Experience of research/audit
  • Experience working within the community setting
