An exciting opportunity has arisen to expand theProvider Improvement Response Team. We are looking for enthusiastic and motivated nurses to join us, with a passion for improving quality of care. We are seeking dynamic, and solution focussed nurses who are willing to go that extra mile and to be part of a successful and effective team.

This is a crucial role in driving improvements in the quality of the adult care market. The nurses will work as part of the Provider Improvement Response Team (PIRT), which is a joint health and social care team with both nurses and local authority officers.

Main duties of the job

The key focus of this team is to work with the highest risks in the care market including services at risk of closure, those in large scale enquiry or those subject to CQC enforcement action. You will feed into the overall assessment of risk for a care service and be instrumental in ensuring the provider delivers the required improvements.

Although the team's focus will be to prevent closure of care services, in circumstances where there is risk of an urgent closure, this team will have a lead role. There is an expectation that where there are urgent closures or significant safeguarding risks, there may be a requirement to work evenings or weekends, however the normal working pattern will be Monday-Friday.

The position will have a combination of on-site visits at care services, working from home and office work. You will need to be able to travel across the County. Line management for this post and the PIRT team is held by Staffordshire County Council in partnership with MPFT.

The role of the Quality Improvement Nurse will assist the Lead Nurse (Provider Improvement and Response Team) to address any identified gaps in patient care and services by supporting care home staff to improve the quality of care to patients through the provision of leadership and expertise.

As part of the Provider Improvement Response Team, the post holder will provide quality improvement support to the care home sector transferring skills where possible and to reinforce the culture of continuous improvement. The Provider Improvement Response Team is a joint health and social care team, operationally managed by the Local Authority.

The post holder will be required to work autonomously to lead time limited quality improvement projects and to demonstrate improved outcomes for patients.

The Quality Improvement Nurse, Provider Improvement and Response Team will work with the wider Local Authority, MPFT and other NHS teams across the health and social care system. Professional support for his post will be given from the Lead Nurse.

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential

  • Registered Nurse with a current NMC registration
  • Educated to degree level or similar equivalent academic ability


Desirable

  • Qualification related to the field of elderly care/frailty/mental health


Experience

Essential

  • Post registration experience in elderly care/frailty/mental health
  • Comprehensive knowledge of specialist areas, i.e. quality improvement, clinical governance, risk management acquired through experience or training to post graduate diploma level
  • Proven experience in managing and implementing change
  • Worked with a range of providers e.g. independent contractors, nursing homes, primary and community care
  • Experience of producing high level reports and analysis


Desirable

  • Good understanding of the current requirements for research governance
  • Awareness of the research agenda in the context of the current NHS
