Looking for an experienced, compassionate, enthusiastic gynaecology oncology, gynaecology or oncology nurse to join the amazing Macmillan Clinical Nurse Specialist Team at the Pan Birmingham Gynae Cancer Centre. As the patient's central point of contact we provide expert information, advice and support for patients being investigated for, diagnosed with and treated for gynaecological cancer, with a particular focus on Gynae cancer surgery.

It takes a kind, organised, knowledgeable nurse with excellent communication and advocacy skills.

Main duties of the job

The Keyworker for patients and their families.

The role will include managing direct and indirect patient care within the organisation and across referral pathways from partner organisations across Birmingham and the Black Country.

You will have, or be supported to develop, the skills to provide specialist, high quality, expert nursing care and support for patients and their carers with a gynaecological cancer diagnosis. You should, therefore, have an understanding of the holistic needs of cancer patients possess excellent communication skills for advising and supporting patients, relatives and other health professionals along with a broad knowledge of managing a range of gynae cancer conditions.

Through information, psychological and emotional support you will assess, explore and understand the implications of the patient's cancer and treatment and engage them wherever possible in difficult decisions.

Ensure patients will be referred to and receive different services as needed, give advice and support to the patient, their family, and carers with a new diagnosis of cancer, living with recurrence, living well after cancer or with advanced cancer.

    Person Specification

    Experience

    Essential

    • Post registration employment in Gynae-Oncology, gynaecology or oncology
    • Demonstrable experience within Gynae -oncology, gynaecology or oncology setting
    • Experience of working with chronic diseases
    • Able to demonstrate evidence of counselling skills
    • Able to demonstrate commitment to high quality patient care
    • Knowledge and understanding of nursing clinical audit
    • Able to set and monitor standards
    • An understanding of the issues surrounding nurses role expansion/advancing practice
    • Evidence of supporting others in the clinical environment


    Desirable

    • Experience in implementing change
    • Experience in a nursing leadership role

    • 1st Level Nurse
    • Degree in Oncology/Gynaecology or Women's Health degree or willing to work towards
