Clinical / Counselling Psychologist - Band 8b 1.0 wte - CMHT psychosis specialist and Community Enablement Pathway, Coventry and Warwickshire Partnership NHS Trust, Community Mental Health Services.

This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced clinical or counselling psychologist to work across two community services, having input for 0.6wte to a CMHT as a specialist in psychosis and 0.4wte to a dedicated community enablement pathway that is inclusive of all mental health diagnoses.

As a principal psychologist you will join colleagues in delivering strong leadership in psychology provision in the team, as well as contributing to the Trust-wide development of our services. You will be expected to promote values that seek to support recovery in this client group and maximise the potential of individuals with the aim of reducing social exclusion, stigma and the potentially disabling effects of psychosis. As part of the Psychology team, you will also be expected to support clinical psychology trainees, clinical associates in psychology and other practitioners in their training and development. Research is also highly valued, and we have been identified as a trial site in a large multi-centre research trial for a psychological intervention for paranoia.

Main duties of the job

Our newly integrated CMHTs provide a comprehensive secondary care mental health provision to people with psychosis and non-psychosis presentations. The post involves providing psychological assessments and treatment to adults with a wide range of presentations, but will have a focus on people with hearing voices experiences and/or a diagnosis of psychosis or schizophrenia.

Our Enablement Pathway has been developed as part of the Mental Health Transformation. We are as excited by this service development and the opportunity it provides to improve patient care, reduce the need for inpatient treatment and contribute to the development of innovative interventions. The multidisciplinary team works across North and South Warwickshire and Coventry. We have three key service spokes (1) supporting the repatriation of individuals from Out of Area placements, (2) supporting the successful reintegration of people from our local mental health rehabilitation units back into their communities and (3) supporting individuals in the community to develop the skills to live successful, fulling lives.

The successful applicant will be required to provide highly specialist psychological assessments and formulations. They will offer a range of evidence-based and recovery focused psychological interventions which will encourage positive risk taking and require working creatively.

By joining CWPT you will be a part of an innovative team, who are committed to transforming services to better support people who are experiencing psychosis.

Services are provided to a population of over one million people living in Coventry and Warwickshire and also a wider geographical area in some of our specialist services, we see on average around 5,000 patients every day.

Job description

Job responsibilities

Compassionate care is at the heart of what we do, and the contribution of psychology and provision of psychological interventions is highly valued. We have a strong commitment trauma informed care and to provide an excellent standard of care and to continually improve, and we are keen see our psychologists flourish and develop. We would welcome applications from clinicians with a special interest in these specific areas. The service is happy to support clinicians through training such as in CBT for Psychosis and in EMDR, and through specialist supervision.

It is essential that candidates have an interest in providing psychological interventions for psychosis and have experience of working with people and their carers in Secondary Care Mental Health, or with people with complex mental health needs in different settings.

Experience of applying cognitive behavioural models to trauma, psychosis and recovery would be advantageous, and interests in ACT, Compassion Focused Therapy and EMDR would be welcome.

Working in conjunction with team leads, service lead, and professional leadership, there will be an opportunity to focus on areas of service improvement, innovation, and research. We actively support research and want to attract psychologists interested in supporting NIHR funded multi-centre research trials into psychological interventions for psychosis.
