Main duties of the job
To perform and be competent in all Nuclear Medicine activities whilst working toward attainment of PGD in Nuclear Medicine.
To be responsible for maintaining professional and technical standards relevant to Nuclear Medicine.
To work closely with the Nuclear Medicine Lead and Deputy by keeping them and the Radiology Service Manager fully informed of issues within Nuclear Medicine.
To maintain and develop clinical Nuclear Medicine skills with clinical competenciesand attainment of PGD in Nuclear Medicine.
Prepare and administer radiopharmaceuticals in line with Departmental Protocols on Nuclear Medicine PGD Qualification.
Adhere to Departmental Protocols and Systems of Work regarding the administration of adjunct drugs and radiopharmaceuticals as part of an examination whilst adhering to dose limits set down by ARSAC Guidelines.
Show clear understanding of Local Rules and Systems of Work and ensuring compliance with written examination protocols.
To provide a specialist clinical nuclear service including I.V cannulation, calculation and administration of radiopharmaceuticals from multi dose vials.

The Nuclear Medicine Department at Walsall is a small team comprised of Radiographers and a Clinical Support Worker We have a single Siemens T16 SPECT/CT gamma camera and perform a wide range of Nuclear Medicine examinations , receiving our radiopharmaceuticals from Regional Radio Pharmacy based at Royal Wolverhampton NHS Trust.

Job responsibilities
To perform performance reviews for junior staff, as directed, in a timely manner, setting objectives and personal development plans. To undertake day to day responsibility for the efficient performance of a clinical area, escalating any issues to the Nuclear Medicine Lead/Deputy. To be responsible for maintaining professional and technical standards relevant to Radiography / Cardiology/ Nuclear Medicine. To establish and maintain effective communication with all members of the imaging team, both senior and junior. To challenge, in a positive manner, poor working practices seeking support from senior colleagues to promote a culture of continuous improvement and development. Once qualified, the post holder will be expected to deliver training and development for junior staff in the Department, under the direction of the Nuclear Medicine Lead. To document and report any equipment faults or breakdowns in a timely manner and notify the Nuclear Medicine Lead. To coordinate routine maintenance of equipment, in conjunction with the Nuclear Medicine Lead. Manage equipment malfunction by liaising with external companies ensuring appropriate handover of equipment to engineers and medical physics staff .

- This will be a training post at Band 5 with progression to Band 6 on attainment of Post Graduate Diploma in Nuclear Medicine .The post holder will be required to undertake the full range of Nuclear Medicine examinations, giving support and advice to other staff, developing them to achieve agreed standards of competency within the specialist field of Nuclear Medicine.
