Registered Nurse - Critical Care Band 5Permanent37.5 hours per weekWe are looking for highly motivated nurses interested in working in our busy and challenging Critical Care environment.
Aintree Critical Care is a 26 bed unit caring for level 2 and 3 patients in the regional trauma centre. Specialties include trauma, MFU and vascular.
Successful candidates will undertake a 12 week preceptorship programme, be committed to Trust Mandatory Training and will be included in an extensive training programme within the Directorate, facilitated by our Practice Educators.Though Critical Care experience is not essential, preference will be given to staff with ITU, HDU or acute ward experience. These posts will be throughout the Directorate, discussed at interview, and decisions made regarding allocation of staff will be based on experience and service need.
Main duties of the job
The postholder will work as a member of the multi-disciplinary team under the supervision of the nurse with continuing responsibility of the unit. Key responsibilities will include the development, implementation and evaluation of programmes of care.The postholder will always work within the NMC's Code of Professional Conduct.

Participate in maintaining a safe, comfortable and therapeutic environment for all patients and carers and maintain agreed standards of nursing care.Determines nursing priorities and plans patient care. Informs the nurse in charge when changes in circumstances may affect patient care.Maintain nursing records in accordance with the NMC and Trust guidelines.Maintain and improve quality of patient care through contribution to the development of Essence of Care and clinical benchmarking within the unit.Ensure due regard is given to customs, values and spiritual beliefs ofpatients.Providing information and support to patients/carers, and ensuring all those involved in the care are aware of changes in the patients condition.Assist in the safe custody, checking and administration of drugs, including inotropes.To develop/possess the clinical knowledge and skills to care for critically ill patients which will include the management of patients with multiple organ failure and complex nursing needs.To develop/possess the ability to undertake expanded practice, in order to optimise patient care, in accordance with unit and Trust policies. (Inclusive of respiratory support, haemodynamic monitoring and manipulation and renal replacement therapies).Act at all times in a manner that upholds the reputation of the Trust and safeguards the wellbeing and dignity of patients and their relatives.
Act always in accordance with the NMC Code of Conduct and Guidance documents and maintain active status on NMC Register.Take every reasonable opportunity to sustain and improve knowledge.Identify objectives within a PDP that support the delivery of high standards of clinical care.The post holder shall as necessary provide cover for and undertake duties of absent colleagues.The post holder shall follow all the policies and procedures of the organisation.
