The Legacy Mentor (Practice Educator) role should appeal to healthcare professionals who have several years of clinical experience and a passion for supporting the next generation of early career leaders. You will be helping newly qualified AHPs by imparting your knowledge, skills and experience through coaching, education and guidance supporting them to gain the competence and confidence to progress their careers.
You will need to demonstrate empathy and patience, be passionate about your profession and be able to provide pastoral support to others. We can all reflect on the importance of mentors and role models in our own careers, and this is an opportunity to have that kind of influence on the new generation as they set out on a career in health and care.
By providing essential professional advice, education, and guidance, you will be feeding forward your legacy to the next generation and supporting staff health and wellbeing and career progression, whilst ensuring they have the required skills and behaviours to deliver high quality, caring and compassionate person-centred care.
This role will be key in supporting newly qualified colleagues to stay well. You will need to be confident in building relationships and collaborating with others. You will be providing coaching and mentoring, and we are happy to provide training for someone with the right skills and attitude needed for this role.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will work alongside the LEAD and divisional practice education teams and will be committed to supporting the development of our newly registered health care professionals.
Work alongside early career registered healthcare professionals supporting competency development and building confidence.
Promote a positive working environment for people in their early career and provide support through coaching and mentoring.
Coach newly qualified clinical professionals to enhance their knowledge and skills.
Provide clinical expertise on a range of projects, supporting best practice and enhancing the learning environment for all.
Liaise and work with other practice area support staff to ensure consistency across the setting and blended learning approaches to support the transfer of learning and skill attainment.
Raise the profile of the role of legacy mentors and share good practice with others, enhancing the profile of the organisation and providing support to managers.
Work as an integral member of the LEAD team to develop appropriate strategies and support for relevant staff in early career, and support retention.
Provide and promote clinical learning opportunities for early career registered staff.
Ensure all training, information and guidance provided is up to date and evidence based.
Support newly qualified registered nurses and Allied Health Professionals to access and complete the Trusts Preceptorship programme within the recommended timeframe.

The final combination of Southern Health and Solent NHS Trust services is expected in late 2024, when our new organisation, to be known as Hampshire and Isle of Wight Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust, will be formed.
Our new Trust will continue to cater to the unique needs of different communities, making healthcare across the county more accessible, as well as offering staff more opportunities for career development, training and partnership working.
