The Whipps Cross Dietetic team are looking for a motivated and enthusiastic Band 5 dietitian to join our innovative department in this supervised rotational post.

Rotation 1: includes critical care experience with supervision

Rotation 2: includes gastroenterology experience with supervision

This position will give you a solid foundation from which you can build your career in most areas of acute dietetics. You will be working in a friendly team alongside both senior and experienced dietitians and support workers within the hospital and be able to access knowledge from the wider team of dietitians across Barts Health. This, along with regular supervision, close multidisciplinary working and peer learning will allow you to build on your confidence and skills in the inpatient setting.

Clinical specialities to learn about within the Whipps Cross team include parenteral nutrition, critical care, gastroenterology, surgery, medicine, oncology, older people's medicine, stroke and diabetes.

Applicants must possess excellent communication and organisational skills in this busy role. The post holder will be required to travel to other sites across Barts Health on occasion for team development meetings and very occasionally to work.

Main duties of the job

To work together with the dietetic team to provide an effective dietetic service to adult in-patients at Whipps Cross Hospital. To ensure that research and audit is undertaken on a regular basis in order to ensure practice is evidence based. This post will have a requirement to work on any adult ward and may be required to work across or attend meetings on any of the sites within Barts Health on request.

Essential

  • BSc Nutrition & Dietetics or relevant postgraduate qualification
  • HCPC registered


Desirable

  • Member of the BDA


Experience

  • Relevant clinical experience in acute and/or community setting
  • Experience of working with a team and understanding team dynamics


Knowledge

  • Understanding of own knowledge and skills and ability to identify learning needs and interests


Skills

Essential

  • Ability to supervise student dietitians and clinical support workers after 6 months at Band 5 level (history of supervision helpful)
  • Experience in working single handedly with individuals and groups
  • Demonstrates ability to problem solve, analyse complex clinical problems and create practical solutions to provide best clinical care
  • Experience in undertaking audit and changing practice in accordance with findings
  • Ability to research and interpret literature and apply to own practice to ensure clinical practice is up to date
  • Demonstrates computer literacy i.e. competent in Microsoft word, power point, excel
  • History of managing own workload and the organizational skills required for this
  • Ability to take own initiative, manage time and plan own workload
  • Evidence of commitment to CPD
  • Demonstrable excellent communication skills within own profession and within the multidisciplinary team

  • Ability to demonstrate behaviour change/ motivational interviewing through dietetic consultations
  • Leadership skills i.e through development of a project/service development or managing staff

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills with people from a variety of backgrounds e.g. via advocacy/interpreters
  • Effective presenting and teaching skills to present complex information to large groups, i.e. presentations to medical, nursing staff and other health care professionals as well as patients
