The successful candidate will be joining an established and enthusiastic therapy team providing a comprehensive Occupational Therapy service to the 3 acute wards and male PICU (psychiatric intensive care unit). This will include using a variety of occupational assessments and utilising the excellent facilities within the unit to provide therapeutic interventions. You will work closely with the MDTs and supervise OT and OT technician to provide and further develop this service across the unit. Your clinical role will be based mainly within the acute wards.

As an ideal candidate you will have broad experience in mental health, a keen interest in using sensory approaches and the VdT Model of Creative Ability and an interest and experience in developing and supporting students and junior staff.

You will be part of a well-established occupational therapy service in the unit and will be involved in unit--wide developments. Saxon, Trinity and Abbey Wards are the male and female acute wards with 18 and 13 and 12 beds respectively.

You will be encouraged and supported in your personal and professional development via well-established supervision and development and training structures and have the opportunity to support junior staff and supervise students on practice placements.

Main duties of the job

*To manage a defined caseload from the acute wards/PICUs, using evidence based/service user centred principles to assess, plan, implement and evaluate interventions.

*To provide leadership for junior staff, through supervision and appraisal.

*To participate in the planning, development and evaluation of OT services, holding responsibility for defined projects.

*To contribute to the maintenance and development of the Trust OT Service.

*To regularly supervise OT students on practice placement.

*To work closely with the wards/community teams to enable smooth transition of service users from PICU to acute wards/community as appropriate.

Essential

  • Diploma/Degree/ in Occupational Therapy
  • State registration with HCPC
  • Documented evidence of continuing professional development
  • Practice Placement qualification within one year of appointment
  • Post graduate training relevant to mental health/learning disability or specialist training
