HMP Pentonville is a Category B remand establishment which holds up to 1300 inmates. The Therapy team consists of Occupational Therapists, Psychologists, Speech and Language Therapists and various support staff.
The post holder will be required to support the delivery of care currently in the form of New Models of Care, enabling the service to meet the London Wide service specification standards for Prison Healthcare.
This OT role will include the assessment, treatment and evaluation of clinical interventions for both service users within the wellbeing centre mainly and wider prison, carrying out functional assessments and contributing to multidisciplinary team care planning and risk assessment.
The postholder will work alongside the Lead OT in developing and reviewing the Wellbeing Centre programme to ensure that it meets the changing needs of the prison population. They will take a senior role in the provision of input into the therapeutic group work programme within the wellbeing centre, facilitating psycho-ed groups with members of the psychology team, overseeing the work of specialist sessional workers providing creative activities, and the development and running of OT specific groups along side the OT lead
The postholder will have a keyworking role to a designated caseload and will take on a role as senior OT with a significant guiding and leading the daily work of the team. They will work closely with the MDT and relevant outside agencies,
Main duties of the job
To record assessments, interventions, reports and statistics to a competent standard in line with professional standards
To communicate treatment plans and clinical reasoning for interventions to other members of the multidisciplinary team and to work in collaboration with other disciplines and staff in clinical work.
To co-facilitate groups with members of the multi-disciplinary team when appropriate, and to provide guidance to other disciplines in the running of groups.
To regularly communicate information to other members of the Therapy Service about individual patients' treatment, management and discharge plans.
To make links with outside community resources, such as colleges, other services to aid the reintegration of prisoners back into the community or transfer to other mental health services.
To coordinate intervention and therapeutic timetables. To be a self directed practitioner, with effective time management skills, able to manage a varied caseload and demands around regular duties.
To be actively involved in service development working closely with the whole team. This will include actively contributing own ideas and assisting in implementing and evaluating developments.
To be involved in service wide initiatives and developments as delegated by the Lead OT.

To provide OT intervention in a variety of areas within the prison, including the Wellbeing Centre, inpatient unit, neurodiversity landing and wider prison when required
To support and motivate service users to attend and participate in individual and group sessions appropriate to their needs.

- Dip. COT, BSc O.T.
- Current Health and Care Professions Council Occupational Therapy registration.
- Evidence of CPD/ Reflective practice in application to clinical setting
Experience and Knowledge
Essential
- Either: a minimum of 3 years postgraduate clinical experience as an Occupational Therapist, which includes at least 1 year's experience of working with people with mental health problems or a minimum of 2 years postgraduate clinical experience as an Occupational Therapist in a forensic setting.
- Experience of planning and running a range of therapeutic groups.
- Experience of carrying out functional and standardised assessments.
- Experience of contributing to multidisciplinary teams care planning and risk assessments.
- Up to date knowledge of developments in O.T., adult mental health, and prison settings, to inform clinical decisions, and best practice for self and supervisees
- Awareness of the impact of the restrictions of security on the therapeutic process
- Experience in the use of the Model of Human Occupation including the use of specific MOHO outcome measures
- To include Knowledge of: Clinical conditions within mental health including, developmental disorders, neurological disorders, personality disorders, depression, anxiety and psychosis
Skills and Abilities

- Effective written communication skills to include assessment and treatment documentation and formal O.T. reports for MD team and outside agencies
- Ability to demonstrate sound clinical judgement and clear clinical reasoning for O.T. interventions
