The paediatric respiratory service provides secondary level care for the local population of Oxfordshire and tertiary care to Oxfordshire and the Thames Valley and parts of Northamptonshire and Gloucestershire. We care for children and young people from the Thames Valley and beyond with a wide range of respiratory issues, both acute and chronic. The post-holder will be working within a multi-disciplinary team including clinicians, specialist nurses and other allied healthcare professionals.
The service currently undertakes over 700 sleep studies each year in children with a wide range of underlying problems including obstructive sleep apnoea, chronic lung disease, apnoea of unknown cause, neuromuscular weakness, and craniofacial and palate disorders
Main duties of the job
The main purpose of this post is to manage the provision of a cardio-respiratory, sleep disorders investigation & monitoring service (Sleep Service) for Paediatric Respiratory Medicine. More specifically this post is to oversee the running of the service which provides advice to the clinical team on the diagnosis and management of cardiorespiratory sleep disorders in infants and children. There are responsibilities/duties for analysis and reporting investigations for which highly specialised skills are required. The role requires active involvement in service development.

Essential
- Degree in Clinical Physiology or related subject or able to demonstrate specialist knowledge through practical experience.
- Highly developed knowledge of and wide practical experience in respiratory sleep investigation.
- Competent in performing respiratory sleep-related diagnostic procedures.
- Experience of communicating specialist information to other members of the clinical team at all levels.
- Knowledge and experience in sleep related cardiorespiratory measurement. Including advanced ability in performing respiratory polygraphy.
- Extensive experience in utilising sleep diagnostic equipment - hardware and software.
Desirable
- Postgraduate theoretical qualification, e.g. PhD or MSc
- Registered Clinical Physiologist or Healthcare Scientist (Clinical Scientist), or working towards this.
- Extensive high level analytical skills in cardiorespiratory measurement
- Experienced in the practical application of sleep diagnostic and therapeutic technologies
- Experience in analysing, interpreting, disseminating advice for specialist services (clinical and or management).
- Advanced knowledge of paediatric respiratory sleep related disorders and treatments.
