The post holder will assess plan and evaluate patient care, supporting in the provision of clinical expertise, while acting as a role model. They will assist in the effective management of the clinical area, acting in a manner consistent with the NMC Code of Professional Conduct, carrying out his/her duties in accordance with Trust policies and procedures.

The post holder will lead, support, supervise and teach staff where appropriate.

Job responsibilities

The post holder must demonstrate competence in a wide range of expanded roles including: Venepuncture, cannulation, ECG recording & basic interpretation, requesting and obtaining pathology samples, utilising PGDs.

The post holder must be able to demonstrate a high level of clinical decision making skills.

Excellent communication skills are required to ensure that patients, relatives and the multi-disciplinary team are able to understand the often complex needs of the patients.

To complete Trust documentation/liaise with all agencies if any suspicions arise regarding the possibility of any Safeguarding Adult/Children issues.

Maintain effective communication within the team by ensuring that information is transmitted at handover and is documented either in the notes, appropriate folders or on the computer system as deemed necessary.

All documentation relating to a patients episode within the department is to be recorded accurately in the patients notes/computer system for future referencing as required.

Assist in maintaining a calm, efficient and cost effective service.

Assist in Co-ordinate/facilitate new staffs orientation into the department.

Undertake individual responsibilities as delegated to the post holder.

Qualifications

Essential

  • RGN with current NMC registration


Desirable

  • Mentorship
  • ILS


Experience

Essential

  • Previous experience within Urgent and Emergency Care


Desirable

  • Previous experience of working in a hospital setting
  • Previous experience of working in a multidisciplinary team
  • Experience of working in a fast paced environment


Skills

Essential

  • Clinical skills such as Venepuncture, Cannulation, ECG


Desirable

  • Ability to work well under pressure
  • Ability to work well as a team as well as autonomously
