Acute Oncology Clinical Nurse Specialist - Band 7
Part-time (22.5 hours) - Fixed term period until September 2025
The Macmillan AOS CNS will work as an integral member of the Acute Oncology Service to provide expert advice and support for patients who have a suspected new cancer diagnosis or who are experiencing acute consequences of their cancer disease and/or cancer treatment. The post holder will practice autonomously, and work in partnership with the Acute Oncology Team to demonstrate a higher level of practice through the provision of specialist nursing knowledge and expertise in the management of patients. The post holder will liaise with colleagues across care settings and service providers to expedite patient diagnostic and treatment pathways. The CNS role is divided into four general areas - clinical excellence, leadership, education and research/ clinical audit.

Main duties of the job
- To contribute to the ongoing development of clinical practice and standards of care within the service, including policies, protocols and guidelines.
- To be a visible and proactive nursing leader acting as a clinical resource and ensuring sustained delivery of high quality, personalised patient care, holistic needs assessment and care plan.
- To maintain a proactive approach to managing patient flow through the defined clinical area and AOS cancer pathways.
- Act as a resource and educator for medical and nursing colleagues within primary and secondary care settings regarding management of oncological emergencies and complex diagnostic pathways.
- To support the development of new service models including ambulatory care and outpatient services to cater for this cohort of patients, thereby promoting admission avoidance and earlier discharge.
- To provide clinical nurse cover for the AOS ANP .
