Neonatal Services are provided at both Lincoln county & Pilgrim hospitals. The Neonatal Unit at Lincoln has a cot capacity of 15, providing intensive, high dependency & special care to babies from both Lincolnshire & surrounding counties. Transitional Care is also provided on the post-natal ward & staff within the service work on both NNU & Transitional Care. There is also a Neonatal Outreach Service. We have also just received Bronze ward accreditation.

Pilgrim Hospital is a modern Special Care Baby unit, with a 12 cot capacity, including 8 Special Care & 4 Transitional Care cots. Transitional Care is located on the unit. Short term intensive care & stabilisation prior to transfer is provided. Both work cohesively, in adherence with the care pathways.

The Neonatal service is continuing to develop, is part of the East Midlands Neonatal Operational Delivery Network & is currently working towards Bliss & BFI Accreditation & in close liaison with the Maternity Transformation Programme as part of the Better Births implementation.

Main duties of the job

Staff will be required to work on an internal rotation basis, including weekends & Bank Holidays & be flexible to meet the needs of the service.

We are able to offer training & education through a variety of formats & there is expectation that you would undertake the Qualified in Speciality course to become a Neonatal Nurse.

Successful candidates will require an enhanced DBS certificate prior to commencement.

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential

  • Current first level Registered Nurse/RSCN or equivalent
  • NMC registered
  • Committed to on-going personal development
  • Willing to undertake a post registration course in neonatal nursing to become qualified in speciality (QIS)


Desirable

  • Neonatal Intensive care post registration qualification.
  • Neonatal life Support course
  • Evidence of recent professional development.


Previous Experience

Desirable

  • Nursing experience within a neonatal unit.

Essential

  • Good written and oral communication skills when liaising with other colleagues, patients, families, carers and the multi-disciplinary team
  • Able to work autonomously using own initiative and to work as part of a team
  • Awareness and Knowledge of the dignity in care agenda
  • Ability to evidence/demonstrate key values and behaviours in line with the Trust framework


Desirable

  • Evidence of extended role
  • Computer and keyboard skills
  • Able to demonstrate good leadership skills
