Main duties of the job
In this role, you will be a visible and credible clinical leader, promoting compassionate leadership within your areas of responsibility whilst engaging your teams to improve standards of care.
You will be an advocate for women within your care and will be committed to your teams and keen to promote excellence within your clinical areas of responsibility working with families within your care.
You will be supported in your role by the Director of Midwifery and wider leadership team to achieve your ambitions and excel as a leader.

- Responsible for defined clinical areas / portfolio and clinical teams
- Be assured through robust monitoring processes that all women and families cared for within the service have their individual care needs assessed, planned, delivered and evaluated by appropriate members of the team.
- Ensure that all women are involved in decisions about their care and have agreed their plans of care.

- To be able to travel around the area of work
- Able to participate on a local divisional on-call for maternity escalation
Education/Qualifications
Essential
- Appropriate Professional Registration - Registered Midwife
- Degree in Midwifery or health related subject
- Recognised teaching and assessing qualification.
- Evidence of ongoing professional
- Registered with Nursing & Midwifery Council
Desirable
- Masters or willingness to work towards
- Leadership qualification
Experience
Essential
- Significant recent operational experience as a Band 7 or above
- Experience of service development, leading and managing change
- Evidence of effective budgetary control
- Up-to-date knowledge of national midwifery policy and strategy
- Experience of working across organisational boundaries
- Experience of policy development and implementation
- Proven ability to flexibly manage workforce and other resources
- Able to demonstrate a personal contribution to the continuing professional development of staff.
- Knowledge of Clinical Governance and Safeguarding and the relevance of these to practice.
- Experience of managing and completing 'performance management' processes
- Experience of mentorship and ability to identify learning and development needs

- Able to demonstrate excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Able to demonstrate coherent report writing skills
- Good presentation and teaching skills
