Two exciting opportunities have arisen for experienced nurses to join the Deputy team on Samaritan Ward. There is both a permanent Deputy post available, as well as a 12 month secondment post which are both full time and will allow you to combine clinical nursing with the opportunity to develop your management skills. .

Samaritan ward is a 25 bedded Haematology specialist unit and we provide holistic care for Haematology patients undergoing chemotherapy and immunotherapy treatments, supportive rehabilitation as well as end of life care.

We work within a large, dynamic multidisciplinary team to provide Haematology and Oncology services to our patients and offer a comprehensive induction to support you in developing your leadership and management skills.

Main duties of the job

We are looking for a caring and compassionate nurse who is highly motivated and enthusiastic to join the team in providing the highest standards of individualised patient care encompassing the trust values at all times.

The successful candidate would be expected to work in partnership with the team of deputies to support the Ward Sister and the Matrons. This is an exciting opportunity to work within a highly renowned and innovative multi-disciplinary team at one of the UK's leading teaching Hospitals in the heart of London.

You will also provide managerial and operational support to the management team as well as have a small portion of the ward staff within your team and ensure they are up to date with trainings and appraisals.

As a deputy sister/ deputy charge nurse you will be expected to role model Trust values and behaviours, and demonstrate professionalism, positivity and enthusiasm at all times mirroring the wards ethos.

Job responsibilities

To be a deputy to the Sister/Charge Nurse and act as a role model for junior team members in the delivery of a high standard of nursing care.

The role will encompass specific responsibility for assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating nursing care and expertise within the clinical area.

To help lead and coordinate the clinical, managerial and educational requirements of the clinical area ensuring the highest standards of nursing practice and care are delivered as reflected by the unit philosophy.

Ensuring the safety and well being of services users, and always working in a manner that promotes dignity and human rights through the adoption of person centered care principles.

Person Specification

Skills

Essential

  • Ability to assess, plan, implement and evaluate specialist care delivered to patients
  • Ability to administer prescribed medication including transfusion of blood products
  • Good communication skills and ability to deal with sensitve information to include dealing with distressed relatives, care of terminally ill and other challenging situations
  • Awareness of clinical governence and risk management issues
  • Knowledge of evidence based practice
