We are recruiting to three permanent Social Worker posts, to be based at Ramsgate House Adult Community Mental Health Team.

Social Work England registration is required.

You will be a qualified Social Worker. We are looking for an experienced mental health social worker who has high professional standards and the ability to work well with colleagues in a multi disciplinary setting. Approved Mental Health Professional (AMHP) status is desirable but not essential). You will be provided regular line management and professional social work supervision by the team's Advanced Social Work Practitioner.

The posts are permanent, Monday to Friday, with Acute Care Pathway outside of core hours for weekends and bank holidays on a rota system.

This position is open to recently qualified social workers as well as experienced social workers. You will be supported by our social work team to develop your skills and experience within the field of mental health social work.

Newly qualified social workers will be supported to complete the ASYE programme with the support of experienced social workers within the team and ASYE supervisor.

Main duties of the job

  • Assessment, support planning, reviews and safeguarding within the meaning of the Care Act 2014.
  • Working in line with the Care Act 2014, Mental Capacity Act (2005) and Mental Health Act (1983).
  • Care co-ordination in line with the Care Programme Approach.
  • Completing and updating risk assessments.
  • Multidisciplinary working.
  • Demonstrating anti discriminatory practice and promoting the rights of adults with care and support needs.
  • Demonstrating excellent organisation and communication skills.
  • Demonstrating an ability to collate information and write reports of a standard fit for legal processes such as Mental Health Tribunals and Hospital Managers Hearings.
  • Fulfilling the duties of an Approved Mental Health Professional / Best Interests Assessor or being willing to work towards gaining the associated qualifications. You will be supported to gain this experience and qualifications.

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential

  • Possession of a recognised Social Work qualification Degree, CQSW, CSS, Dip SW or equivalent.
  • You must hold a current registration with SW England.
  • Approved Mental Health Professional (AMHP) status or willingness to undertake the training.


Desirable

  • You have additional qualifications Post Qualifying courses such as best interests assessor or relevant other continued professional development
  • Best Interest Assessor or willingness to undertake the training.
  • Qualified Practice Educator or willingness to undertake the training.


Experience

Essential

  • Substantial prior experience working with individuals presenting with mental health needs
  • An understanding of the principles and values underlying the Care Act 2014 Mental Health Act (1983, as amended), Mental Capacity Act (2005) and other legislation as they relate to individuals presenting with mental health conditions.
  • Evidence your ability to develop effective working relationships with service users, their carers and show evidence of good assessment practice.


Desirable

  • Prior experience working as a care coordinator in community mental health services.
  • Experience of acting as Enquiry Lead and undertaking adult safeguarding enquiries in line with s.42 Care Act.
  • Previous experience commissioning packages of care in line with the Care Act 2014 and S.117 Mental Health Act.


Knowledge and skills

Essential

  • Up to date knowledge of and ability to interpret mental health, mental capacity and human rights legislation including current case law.
  • You must clearly evidence an understanding of the integration agenda the enablement model of health and social care what is personalisation and how do you ensure your work is person centred including knowledge of Making Safeguarding Personal.
  • You must clearly evidence that you have a clear understanding of the Social Worker role in a Community Mental Health Team.
  • Knowledge of relevant welfare rights legislation.
  • Ability to work as a team member.
  • Sensitivity and perception in the assessment of adults with complex care and support needs, their families using the assessment and safeguarding frameworks.
  • Ability to develop written reports, including those needed under legal requirements.
  • Ability to work with adults to promote their independence and well-being.

  • Able to work in a flexible manner whilst managing own time and work load.
  • Commitment to training, service, and continuous professional development.
