Our team at Weston is a small, but friendly team that provides 24/7 x-ray coverage. Being a smaller hospital, our hospital stands out from others in that it is a hospital where different teams often mix together both inside and outside of work.
Our hospital is based in the lovely seaside town of Weston-Super-Mare. We have direct trains to major cities such as Bath, Bristol and London. We are also in very close proximity to Bristol airport. We also have a newsagent, Rafters restaurant, and Costa Coffee shop on site.

Work to set standards & protocols, functioning in accordance with best practice and in a manner that meets professional, departmental and legal standards and requirements.
Assist in more complex radiological examinations under the supervision of senior staff.
Take part in the provision of a 24-hour radiographic service across the Trust.
Work alongside senior staff to assist in the efficient control of workflow patterns within the department.
Able to organise own workload
Responsible for own self development, research and audits in-line with CPD (Continuous Professional Development)
The organisation of radiology assistants and student radiographers within their designated room
Responsibility for Patient Care, Treatment and Therapy:
Ensure safe working practises and a safe working environment.
Must take full account of the Health and Safety of the working environment, especially in relation to radiation protection regulations, local rules and IRMER.
Be familiar with and apply current radiation safety policies (IRMER) Health and Safety policies, COSHH regulations and manual handling policies.
Knowledge of departmental Health and Safety issues, Manual Handling regulations and infection control, as well as all Trust related H& S regulations.
Responsible for own, patients, carers, students and helper safety in relation to radiation protection.
Will function as an operator and / or IR(ME)R Practitioner as defined by IR(ME)R regulations.
Must be able to perform a wide range of x-ray examinations to a high level of expertise.
Produce images of sufficient quality for the diagnostic and treatment process in accordance with professional, technical and legal standards
Regular exposure to distressing or emotional situations, weekly, e.g. caring for terminally ill and occasional exposure (few times per year) to highly distressing situations e.g. cardiac arrest.
Physical skills required dexterity, co-ordination and sensory skills required for precise positioning of patients with narrow margins for error.
Knowledge of adverse reactions to contrast agents and the procedures for handling these.
Frequent exposure to bodily fluids e.g. blood, urine etc., infection risks and occasional exposure to fleas/lice or intoxicated, aggressive or abusive patients and relatives
Manual handling skills, including moving, lifting, lateral transfers and the use of a hoist.
The post-holder is required to position & manoeuvre patients and equipment on a daily basis. In any booked or ad hoc list patients may be ambulant wheel chair bound or on a stretcher or bed. Transfer to a couch may be necessary. Movement of wheelchairs/stretchers/beds over short distances required (few metres).
Well motivated and with enthusiasm to develop skills.
Responsibility Finance, Equipment and Other Resources:
The postholder will be responsible for the safe and efficient use of expensive and complex technical equipment
Ensuring all equipment is cleaned appropriately.
Reporting of faults to senior member of staff in a timely manner.
Be competent in the use of radiographic imaging equipment and peripherals, reporting any deficiencies or issues arising to assist in the maintenance of the Radiology Departmental QA.
Contribute to safe working practices, recognise issues and report faults to x-ray managers.
Frequent use of VDU equipment on most days, less than 50% of a shift.
Responsibility for Human Resources:
May be required to supervise radiographic assistant/helpers, student radiographers and other trainees.
Identify training needs of self and contribute to the departmental education programme.
Share knowledge & experience with other radiographers, radiology registrars, assistant practitioners, student radiographers and other trainees.
Responsibility for Information Resources and Administrative Duties:
Basic knowledge of IT skills in relation to radiology information system, and computer controlled radiology equipment.
Responsible for maintaining patient records pertaining to imaging examinations.
Follow the protocols that are in place for team to comply with legal record keeping requirements.
Perform all administrative tasks required, including patient reception & data entry onto Radiology Information System.
Ensure both imaging identification and patient documentation is accurate and that computer progression is timely.
Responsibility for Research and Development:
Must be able to adapt to new practice in imaging though evidence based practice. This will involve maintaining their own personal development as appropriate to the needs of the individual and the service.
Participate in audit and improvement in the quality of the work of the team.
Freedom to Act:
Keeping abreast of current developments and skills, recognition of normal/abnormal features on radiographic images, developing the role, radiographic image analysis, and achieving a balance between the technical demands of post and care of patients.
