We are seeking an enthusiastic, forward thinking and motivated nurse to join this busy, tri-site service during this fixed term post. Imperial College NHS Trust is a tertiary referral centre for OG and HPB malignancies for North West London. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to join the Team for a year and to gain expert experience and enhanced knowledge of HPB cancer management in secondary care and develop key advanced CNS skills in an environment supported by an experienced nursing and multiprofessional team.

Main duties of the job
To provide specialist nursing advice and support to patients in Upper GI particularly with OG tumours and facilitate high quality, individualised care to patients/clients and relatives/carers, both inpatients and outpatients, without supervision in collaboration with the multi-disciplinary team in line with local and national targets.
The post holder will provide specialist nursing care within the surgical and oncology setting and support and deputise for their line manager in the management of their clinical speciality. This will involve dealing with complex situations and having to take appropriate action in a variety of settings.
To be flexible in the approach to the clinical area and to provide cover for any area specified acting as professional role model providing direct and indirect clinical care, teaching and research.
To develop the clinical nurse specialist role in accordance with local and national policy and ensure the needs of patients and their families are central to service improvement initiatives.

- Teaching and Assessing qualification or equivalent teaching experience.
- Post registration experience in Oncology/Upper GI or related subject with experience of change management.
- Has attained a First Level Degree in management/professional nursing issues.
- Evidence of continued professional development.
- Recognised teaching qualification or prepared to work towards.
- Registered Nurse.
Desirable
- Leadership qualification.
- Level 2 Psychology training.
- Masters level learning or is working towards.
Experience
Essential
- Significant post registration experience in cancer/palliative care and experience in either junior specialty role or team leader/ward management role.
- Experience with managing patient in Upper GI.
- Leadership and management experience.
- Ability to work within a team and independently.
- Proven teaching and assessing skills.

- Involvement with the national cancer peer review process.

- Demonstrate commitment through involvement in Trust wide initiatives/ committees.
- Able to demonstrate highly developed specialist knowledge of own patient group (Upper GI - Hepatopancreatobiliary and Oesophagogastric).
- Knowledge of research and audit including implementation of findings and review of outcomes.
- Evidence of continuing professional development.
- Ability to practice within the scope of the NMC Code of Professional Conduct.
