12-month Fixed-Term Contract
We have an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic, motivated, and compassionate Assistant Psychologist to play a core part in delivering formulation driven brief psychological interventions in the new Psychological Skills Service (PSS) in Peterborough.
The Psychological Skills Service developed as part of the Exemplar project in Cambridgeshire and Peterborough NHS trust (CPFT). CPFT were chosen by NHS England as one of the national exemplar pilot sites for the redesign and transformation of primary and community mental health care.
The goal of this transformation project was to develop and deliver a new service paradigm that seeks to provide a more seamless pathway of mental health care and eliminate current gaps between services. PSS was developed to try and address gaps in service provision, and we currently provide interventions for those service users who would have fallen into the gaps between primary and secondary care.
Main duties of the job
You will be part of a team of Clinical /Counselling Psychologists, Clinical Associate Psychologists (CAPs) Support Workers. We also have Social Work Occupational Therapist and Mental Health Nurse expertise forming our team management.
On a day to day basis the role will involve the following tasks:
However, full training and ongoing weekly (individual & group) supervision by a clinical psychologist will be provided to enable you to feel confident in this role and support your professional development, alongside training prior to commencing this aspect of the role.

Main duties of the job

- Delivering brief psychological interventions, in particular ones designed to support people with the stabilisation phase of recovering from complex trauma
- Co-facilitating therapy groups e.g. 'Understanding and Coping with Trauma'
- Monitoring the effectiveness of interventions through managing outcome measures processes
- Being a key member of the PSS 'Neurodiversity Pathway'.
- Completing screening for ASD/ADHD.
- Supporting clients in identifying how ADHD/ASD traits affect their functioning in order to co-create their personalised support plan for the psych educative aspect of the pathway.
- Facilitating Neurodivergence relevant educational sessions
- Supporting the team in developing new materials including undertaking literature searches.

Education/Qualifications
Essential
- An upper second-class honours degree or higher in psychology.
- Entitlement to graduate membership of the British Psychological Society

- Further post graduate training in relevant areas of professional psychology, mental health practice and/or research design and analysis.

- Experience of working as an Assistant Psychologist
- Experience of working with adults with mental health difficulties
- Experience of working as part of a multidisciplinary team
