We are proud to announce that due to internal promotion there is a vacancy for a rehabilitation ward sister on our neuro/stroke unit. We are seeking a confident and seasoned Band 5 staff nurse to elevate into the esteemed role of band 6 ward sister. We are on the lookout for an adept and vibrant individual who thrives on excellent patient care within a serene and welcoming atmosphere.

Nestled in the picturesque Garston area of Watford lies the Holywell Rehabilitation Unit, housed within the Langley House Community Hospital. This 20-bedded ward specialises in the intricate realms of Neuro and Stroke Rehabilitation, serving as a beacon of hope for those and their families on the path to recovery. Holywell is one of the four Hertfordshire Bedded Units and we are proud to all work in unison to provide good safe and holistic patient care to the residents of West Hertfordshire. At the heart of our ethos lies a commitment to delivering impeccable nursing care and rehabilitation, catering to individuals who have undergone life-altering experiences such as strokes, brain tumours, or significant accidents. Main duties of the job

To work alongside the Ward Manager and Modern Matron to have an oversight or day to day running of the unit, and safety of your patients.

To manage all nursing and HCA staff on the ward. This includes delegating to junior nurses within the team.

To work alongside the Ward Manager to plan and set objectives with staff and monitor this through the appraisal system.

Maintain an interest in current stroke and neuro issues and, using critical analysis, assess suitability for application with the ward area

To keep own practice and those around you safe, effective, and up to date by engaging in continued professional development and training.

Job description

Job responsibilities

To manage all nursing and HCA staff on the ward. To plan and set objectives with staff and monitor this through the appraisal system. To monitor the use of bank and agency staff used, liaising with Temporary Staffing Service as appropriate. To manage staff sickness/absence levels and ensure referral of staff to the Employee Health Department as appropriate. Take the required action through processes outlined in the CLCH Sickness Absence policy and with the involvement of HR. Eduation/Qualifications

Essential

  • Registered Nurse
  • Currently working as a band 5 and above


Desirable

  • Leadership course
  • Teaching and Assessing Qualification Management qualification


Experience

Essential

  • Post registration experience
  • Experience managing staff performance and addressing competency issues. .
  • Evidence of continuous professional development.
  • Experience in change management and implementation.
  • Experience of carrying out audit and the formulation of action plans


Desirable

  • Experience of teaching and mentoring students and clinicians in developmental role.
  • Experience in caring for patients with neurological issues, eg stroke
  • Experience in developing and implementing organisational policies and procedures.
  • Budget management experience.
  • Experience in managing short and long term sickness.
  • Experience in dealing with patient complaints.
  • Ability to demonstrate an understanding and application of research principles and practice.


Skills & Knowledge

Essential

  • Possess a basic knowledge of neuro conditions.
  • Use of PEG feed and bowel management or willingness to learn
  • Ability to manage human and physical resources.
  • Intermediate knowledge of IT systems and software programs such as Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Access.
  • Able to demonstrate and understanding of health policy and professional nursing.
  • Knowledge of current issues relating to the care of Older people.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of Clinical Governance.


Desirable

  • Ability to teach junior / new staff about neuro conditions
  • Extensive knowledge on NICE stroke guidance
  • A thorough knowledge and understanding of Community Care Legislation and the NHS's role in continuing care for older people in particular the importance and relevance of partnership working, especially between Health and Social Services.
  • Knowledge on NHS' 5 year plan
