We are looking for an enthusiastic Band 6 Dietitian to join our friendly team to work as a key, valued and active member of the Acute Dietitians team based at St Richards Hospital, Chichester.

This is fixed term post for one year. The applicant must be self-motivated, well-organised and be confident communicator.

Informal visits or discussions about the role are very welcome.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will work for alongside the MDT providing expert dietetic advise to the in-patients on the stroke ward at st Richards Hospital. In addition, this position takes an active role in monitoring and providing tube-care to enterally-fed patients across the wards and the training of patients and their carers prior to discharge with an enteral feeding tube.

The post holder will participate in continuing professional development, audit and research within this specialist area to further best practice and personal development.

They will also be involved in supporting junior dietitians and students.

Job description

Job responsibilities

  • Undertake dietetic assessments of referred patients taking into account medical, social, cultural and psychological factors. Calculate nutritional requirements based on the interpretation of anthropometry, biochemistry, clinical condition and other physical parameters.
  • Determine and prescribe the appropriate dietetic treatment and develop treatment plans.
  • Provide training to patients, carers and staff and order equipment/appropriate ancillaries for patients.
  • Negotiate change with patients to enable them to achieve targets, overcoming barriers to change including dietary, environmental, social and psychological factors.
  • Communicate complex information in an understandable form to patients who may have barriers to communication and understanding.

Qualifications

Essential

  • Bachelor of science (Honors degree) Nutrition and Dietetics, Diploma in Nutrition and dietetics, or post graduate Diploma


Desirable

  • Post registration training in cognitive behavioural therapy.
  • Student clinical facilitator training course
  • RELEVANT POST GRAD COURSES


Registration

Essential

  • State registration with the Health profession Council
  • Member of British Dietetic Association


Desirable

  • Member of BDA specialist group


Clinical

Essential

  • good range of clinical dietetic experience
  • Experience working with patients in an NHS in-patient setting


Desirable

  • Experience with working with Stroke patients
  • Experience with working with patient requiring enteral feeding
