This post is eligible for a Golden Hello payment of �2,750 for new starters who are external to the Trust. This is payable in 3 instalments over a 2 year period. This payment is only eligible to new starters who do not already hold a contract of employment with the Trust. An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Senior Substance Misuse Practitioner to join the Offender Health Directorate working at HMP Fosse Way. HMP Fosse Way is a Category C Resettlement Prison.

HMP Fosse Way has 1,715 prisoners and focus on the rehabilitation of offenders and their reintegration back into society. It consists of 7 House blocks across 4 floors. There is a dedicated healthcare suite located in the main building with also additional multi use rooms across the establishment including rooms for groups or 1-2-1's.

Main duties of the job

To take a lead role in providing the successful and effective delivery of Substance Misuse services in HMP Services Offender Health. To work as a senior substance misuse practitioner within a multi-disciplinary team in a prison setting, providing care to patients with complex substance misuse problems, from the point of entry into the prison system to re-entry into the community so that re-offending is reduced, and the health and social functioning of prisoners is improved.

To provide high quality patient care through assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating care for people with substance misuse problems working to both harm reduction and health promotion / recovery agendas.

To provide leadership to junior staff

To provide effective substance misuse care services for prisoners, which deliver against required standards, e.g. Key Performance Indicators, Prison Health Performance Quality Indicators and demonstrate value for money, improve the mental health of individuals, enabling the service to compete as provider of choice to local commissioners.

The Offender Health Care Group is one of the largest and most successful providers of prison healthcare in the UK. The Care Group provide physical, mental health and substance misuse healthcare services in prisons across the East Midlands, Lincolnshire & Leicestershire.

The Care Group provides healthcare to 7 prisons and a short term holding facility. You are part of a large peer group of 400+ healthcare professionals with access to peer support, supervision and excellent opportunities for learning and development. We also offer services within the Personality Disorder Pathway, including Therapeutic Communities (within prisons), Community and Prison Personality Disorder services and specialist Veteran Services.

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential

• Either a current professional registration e.g. nursing, O.T, Social Work
• Evidence of Continuing Professional Development in relation to substance misuse ence of appropriate continued learning
• Equivalent knowledge and experience in the provision of structured psychosocial interventions relevant experience at band 5 level

Desirable

• Non Medical Prescribing Course (or willingness to attend)

Experience

Essential

• Experience of community related Substance Misuse multi-disciplinary work
• Experience of working with patients presenting with challenging behaviours
• Experience of record keeping, report writing, correspondence

• Experience of working in criminal justice setting

• Theoretical knowledge of substance misuse and evidence based psycho-social interventions
• Awareness of local and national substance misuse strategies eg the recovery agenda
