Starlight Ward is looking for 2 experienced band 5 Nurses, who are passionate about working with children of our local community.

We are considering applicants from all 4 fields of nursing as we recognise all are valuable in the acute setting, caring for children and young people with a variety of needs including mental health and learning disabilities as well as those with an acute illness. Adult trained nurses must have experience working with children.

The Homerton is an 18 bed unit, providing holistic care for babies, children and young people from 0-16, with an emerging pathway for 16 & 17 year olds. We provide care to children with a wide variety of medical conditions as well as day case and some emergency surgery. We offer HDU care for deteriorating patients before transferring out should they require intubation and ventilation. We regularly care for children with learning difficulties, disabilities and mental health conditions and can provide training to develop your skills in all these areas.

The post holders will work closely with the MDT and will be involved in planning, implementing and evaluating the care of their patients. We have a Practice Development Nurse and a Practice Facilitator who will work with you to plan your development. Training opportunities are available to you.

*Please note - this vacancy is not suitable for Overseas Registered Nurses required to take the OSCE exam.

Working Hours: 37.5 per week

Main duties of the job

Main duties include:
  • To work closely with clinical colleagues within children and families' services and the Homerton Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust
  • To work closely with parents and carers of children and young people
  • To support care programmes and care pathways
  • To support the senior nurses in achieving service objectives
  • To liaise appropriately with all members of the multidisciplinary team in a manner that promotes effective teamwork, participation in MDT meetings.
  • To document all patient details to the required standard in relation to the admission, planning, implementation, and evaluation of patient care using the systems where appropriate.

We welcome informal visits so you can meet members of the team.

Interviews will be held face to face.
