An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Deputy Head of Midwifery and Nursing to join the senior nursing team within the Women's and Children's division at Stockport NHS Foundation Trust.

The post holder in partnership with the Divisional Director of Midwifery and Nursing will provide professional and operational leadership and management of the services, delivering a safe quality service while meeting financial targets. They will also provide expert advice within the service in the absence of the Divisional Director of Midwifery and Chief Nurse regarding professional midwifery and nursing issues.

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate needs to be clinically credible and experienced we want you to bring strategic vision, endless energy and a passion for delivering the highest standards of care for women and families of Stockport.

The post holder will need to be committed, organised and have people management experience. You need to be a confident communicator with excellent verbal and written communication skills.

You will inspire your teams to implement the highest standard of care through robust, processes and procedures, whilst using your experience and skill to support and deliver both the strategic and operational vision.

Job responsibilities

This role would suit someone who has a significant amount of experience within maternity services , leading, managing and motivating clinical teams in continually improving the way they work for the benefits of their patients, families and staff. Clinical credibility and a strong track-record of improving midwifery and nursing care standards, patient experience and continuous CQC preparation are also essential. Supporting the Divisional Director of Midwifery and Nursing, you will be responsible for the strategic and operational development across a range of portfolios.

Interested applicants should have proven senior midwifery and nursing experience including leading multiple clinical teams. You will demonstrate significant change management and service development experience.

If successful, this vacancy will require an enhanced DBS check at a cost of �41.90. This cost will be deducted from your first Trust salary.

In addition to this it will be a condition of your employment that you will join the DBS update service and pay the annual subscription fee of �13.

Person Specification

Education & Qualifications

Essential

  • Registered Midwife
  • Masters Degree (or working towards) or equivalent
  • Evidence of relevant continuing professional development
  • Significant operational management experience at Matron/Lead Midwife or above
  • Management qualification or equivalent experience


Desirable

  • Appropriate teaching Qualification
  • Professional Midwifery Advocate


Knowledge

Essential

  • Sound knowledge and experience in all aspects of midwifery practice
  • Excellent evidence based theoretical knowledge with the ability to apply theory to practice
  • Knowledge of issues around safeguarding children and adults
  • Knowledge of (and experience of involvement in) clinical governance and risk management process
  • Understanding of midwifery A-equip model and restorative clinical midwifery supervision
  • Knowledge of clinical audit

  • Excellent leadership skills

  • Experience in a range of midwifery settings and models of care
  • Experience of working with strategic partners and key stakeholders including specialty networks
  • Knowledge of managing budget/finance


Desirable

  • Implemented and lead on practice related changes
  • Involvement with national/regional bodies or programmes
