Head and Neck Clinical Nurse Specialist with a focus on Thyroid

Can be band 6 or 7 depending on experience. Secondment would be considered

An exciting opportunity has arisen within the Head and Neck Service for a Clinical Nurse Specialist with a special interest in Thyroid. This role will involve autonomously reviewing patients in clinics and supporting patients through investigations, diagnosis of a thyroid cancer and Head & Neck cancer diagnosis and through ongoing treatment and follow up, working within guidelines set by the North of England Cancer Network, specialist multi-disciplinary teams and local teams.

Main duties of the job

  • Providing face to face support for patients at cancer diagnosis
  • Providing support to patients between diagnosis and treatment
  • Supporting patients post surgery
  • Liaising with Newcastle CNS's
  • Reviewing patients in clinic
  • Completing Holistic needs assessments

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential

  • NMC Registration
  • Degree in Adult cancer care (1 module must relate to the care of a thyroid patient
  • ENB 998 (teaching and assessing) or equivalent
  • *Completion of the advanced communication skills training course
  • Level 2 practitioner for psychological support
  • *Essential for the post, however if the applicant does not currently hold them they will be built into their Initial Professional Development Plan


Desirable

  • Extended supplementary nurse prescribing (HEA372)
  • Certificate in Education/PGCE or working towards
  • NURC 309


Knowledge

Essential

  • Experience of working as a senior nurse within a thyroid/oncology setting (senior staff nurse/sister level)
  • *Evidence of leading audit and research in thyroid-oncology
  • Relevant experience of working within a thyroid/oncology mulitidisciplinary team
  • Evidence of involvement in service development and evaluation
  • Evidence of involvement in the National Peer Review process
  • *Essential for the post, however if the applicant does not currently hold them they will be built into their initial professional development plan
  • Demonstration of continued learning with portfolio
  • Aware of the Nursing and Midwifery Strategy
  • Aware of and act in accordance with the NMC Code of Professional Conduct
  • Understanding of Trust Policies and procedures
  • Professional leadership within the Clinical Governance Framework
