Tissue Viability Nurse

37.5 hours a week

To promote expert, individualised patient centred clinical care for clients with Tissue Viability needs including vascular needs, compromised skin integrity and pressure ulcers by using evidence based practice for the population of Croydon Health Services (CHS). The Tissue Viability Nurse will assess and plan care for patients referred to the service and work in conjunction with the tissue viability team. The role will include the provision of care and supervision of the delivery of this care by clinical staff. The post holder will offer education and support to patients, carers and other health care professionals.

The Tissue Viability Nurse will work closely with other health care professionals to promote a high standard of care in the prevention and management of pressure ulcers ensuring the pressure ulcer policy & pathway are followed. The role will include responsibility for the wound care of the inpatient and community population, and those attending the Wound Clinic.

Main duties of the job

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic and dynamic Tissue Viability Nurse to join the integrated tissue viability team to provide a specialist service across the organisation. You will work as part of a highly motivated and proactive tissue viability team which is able to provide professional and personal development opportunities and offer appropriate support for this post. You will have an active role in all aspects of wound care management within the Trust, including audits, pressure ulcer management and reporting, prescribing and leading on training programs for all aspects of tissue viability.

Person Specification

EDUCATION AND QUALIFICATIONS

Essential

  • Registered General Nurse parts 1 or 12 of register
  • Experience of working in a similar specialist environment
  • Evidence of study at diploma or degree level, preferably in the field of wound care


Desirable

  • Nurse Prescriber (or desire to undertake course)


KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING

Essential

  • Depth knowledge of tissue viability and associated vascular disorders
  • Knowledge in the use of pressure relieving equipment


EXPERIENCE

Essential

  • Community experience at Band 6 level or equivalent
  • Experience of caring for patients with complex tissue viability needs
  • Experience in designing and delivering teaching packages


Desirable

  • Experience of caring for patients with complex vascular needs


SKILLS/ABILITIES

Essential

  • Ability to demonstrate sound clinical judgement and decision making, supported by theoretical knowledge
  • Ability to work under pressure, manage workload and meet deadlines
  • Ability to demonstrate sound teaching and presentation skills with use of PowerPoint presentations tailored to a variety of audiences

Essential

  • Be a car driver, current UK licence, have access to car for work purposes and be willing and able to travel borough-wide
