F6 Ward Sister/Charge nurse
Would you like the opportunity to broaden your leadership skills into a band 6 position? F6 specializes in general surgery and Urology, colorectal surgery and upper gastroenterology, it is a busy surgical ward which predominately cares for emergency surgical patients.
We are looking for a motivated, passionate and experienced nurse with a passion for surgical nursing. You will be part of a leadership team, will need to be able to demonstrate excellent communication skills, team working skills and be dedicated to improving patient outcomes. You will support the ward team with the day to day running and provide clinical leadership helping to promote, evolve and maintain our positive patient experience, service outcome and the skills we provide. Our ward sisters are key to the success of the ward and play an important role in staff development. You will be a role model, leading the way in best practice and facilitate new ways of working.

Main duties of the job
Leading/Managing Care
o Ensure a high standard of nursing is delivered by self and others based on an assessment of care needs and the development, implementation and evaluation of programmes of care, identifying priorities and realistic goals involving patients, relatives and the multi-disciplinary team.
o Utilise leadership skills ensuring that the ward runs smoothly in the absence of the Ward Manager.
o Assist and support the Ward Manager in the safe, effective management of the area including management of personnel, facilities and the associated systems and processes.
o Supervise and monitor the work of staff within the ward, ensuring that practice is evidence based and agreed protocols adhered to
o Co-ordinate care across the ward/department deploying staff and prioritising as necessary.
o Ensure that staff rotas are planned in advance to provide adequate staffing and skill mix. Identify when shortfalls occur, or are likely to occur, taking appropriate remedial action.
o Assist the Ward Manager to manage resources within agreed budgets as set by the Clinical Manager.
o Assist the Ward Manager in the recruitment and selection of staff following agreed personnel policies.

STAFF CAR PARKING
Staff Car Parking on the West Suffolk Hospital Site is eligible for individuals working outside of the core hours, 07:00 18:30.
For individuals working within the core hours, the Trust offers parking off site at the Bury St Edmunds Rugby Club, which is serviced by a regular shuttle bus to and from the Hospital. Details of the bus timetable can be found in the on-line starter pack on the West Suffolk Hospital website.
This parking restriction does not apply if an individual is required to work on a weekend or if they are required to complete on call duties within their role.
