We are excited to be advertising two Structured Clinical Management (SCM) practitioner roles based here in adult secondary care in Haringey.

The SCM Practitioner role offers the opportunity for an enthusiastic and experienced mental health practitioner to further develop their skills in offering an evidenced-based intervention for service users with Complex Emotional Needs (CEN). The post holder will work alongside other SCM practitioners, psychological therapists and mental heath professionals to implement SCM as part of a core offer.

The successful candidate will be a qualified Mental Health Practitioner (e.g. RMN, Occupational Therapist, Clinical Associate Psychologist) and may have additional training in SCM, DBT or MBT and an interest in complex PTSD and complex trauma. In addition, the ideal candidate will have worked with services users with CEN offering assessment, formulation and therapeutic intervention.

Main duties of the job

You will have access to SCM training and regular supervision (e.g. group and/or individual). You will work as a member of the Complex Emotional Needs team providing 1-1 and group interventions to service users with complex emotional and relational needs and other comorbidities (e.g. PTSD symptoms) as part of a core offer. You will work with a caseload of people within the SCM programme.

Job responsibilities

1The post holder is expected to establish and maintain positive interpersonal relationships with other staff members characterised by trust, mutual respect, and open, honest communication.

Alongside other SCM practitioners to support training of SCM when required.

To maintain the highest standards of clinical record keeping including electronic entry and recording, report writing and the responsible exercise of professional governance in accordance with professional codes of practice of the regulating body and Organisation.

Alongside others to maintain digit systems related to the smooth running of SCM.

To use a high level of interpersonal skills, reasoning and negotiation skills to establish a therapeutic relationship with people with complex emotional difficulties managing barriers to communication.

To collaborate with the service user to enable the individual to be a partner in care.

To undertake SCM assessment to include, mental health and risk assessments, psychological formulation and care planning.

To provide SCM in both 1-1 sessions and group sessions in conjunction with other practitioners

To act as a named worker for the service users allocated to your care practising without direct supervision and with a degree of autonomy.

To make onward referrals and signpost to other services including VCSE and neighbourhood services to enable wrap around, holistic support for service users undergoing treatment to meet a broad range of need.

To participate in MDT discussions

To liaise with and develop relationships with other agencies involved in the service users care to ensure consistent multi agency approach and maintain effective communication

Provide advice and guidance to other members of the team in relation to SCM.

To attend and participate in weekly SCM supervision and individual clinical supervision.

To participate in other clinical duties as appropriate.

Person Specification

Qualifications/ Registrations

Essential

  • A qualification in a mental health or social care (nursing, allied health professional, social work). oOR Post graduate masters' level training as a Clinical Associate in Psychology.
  • Registration with regulating body where applicable
  • Evidence of continuing professional development


Desirable

  • Additional training in Structured Clinical Management (SCM)/ Dialectical Behaviour Therapy/ Mentalisation Based Therapy.
  • Accredited as an SCM Practitioner


Skills/ Abilities

Essential

  • Evidence of ability to provide specialist mental health assessment and risk assessment/ management and be accountable for decision making
  • Ability to formulate a services users presenting difficulties and risk utilising psychological theory
  • Ability to work collaboratively and with services users in 1-1 and in group settings
  • Evidence of ability to manage a complex caseload without direct supervision
  • Ability to provide therapeutic interventions for this client group.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and provide coherent reports and documentation according to Trust documentation standards
  • Ability to work collaboratively with other agencies in the best interests of the service user
  • Demonstrate an ability to work as part of a team
  • Ability to manage own emotions in the face of others distress.
  • Ability plan own workload and prioritise without direct supervision
  • Ability to be assertive and engage in difficult conversations with clients, carers and other professionals.


Desirable

  • A demonstrated ability to facilitate group intervention.


Experience/ Knowledge

Essential

  • Demonstrable experience of working with service users with personality disorder and/or significant emotional and relational issues
  • A commitment to and interest in providing a core offer to this client group
  • Experience of working with service users experiencing suicidal ideation and self harm
  • Significant post registration experience working in a mental health service
  • Proven experience of completing mental health assessments, risk assessments and risk management plans without direct supervision
  • Experience of MDT and multi- agency working.
  • Experience of holding a caseload of service users.
  • NICE Guidelines and current best practice in the management of people with personality disorder
  • Knowledge of safeguarding protocols.


Desirable

  • Previous experience of working to a model of SCM.
  • Previous experience of working with complex PTSD and complex trauma presentations
