Beeston ward is a 23 bedded Health care of the older persons ward. Providing the best care for older people with a stable ,well supported and motivated workforce . Our pathway and treatment of our vulnerable patients group are at the leading edge within the field. We are innovative and constantly looking for ways to improve the service we provide.

Within the Health care of the older persons speciality there are opportunities to complete the frailty module which forms part of the degree pathway

Main duties of the job

If you are newly qualified this experience will enable you to consolidate all that you have learnt throughout your training as well as learning a number of specialist skills.

If you come with experience then maybe your focus will be the opportunity to specialise in caring for the older members of our population with the view to developing the skills required to become one of the advanced nurse practitioners.

Care of acutely unwell patients who are often frail and vulnerable with a wide spectrum of health conditions/co-morbidities that are challenging to manage

Development of assessment and rehabilitation skills to prevent deconditioning and maintain independence

Management of complex transitions from the hospital environment back into the community

Access to courses developed specifically in recognition of the specialism

Person Specification

Training & Qualifications

Essential

  • Current level one NMC registration Competent in medicines management


Desirable

  • Diploma or degree in health/nursing related Studies Evidence of Continuing professional development/reflective profile


Experience

Essential

  • Experience of delivering nursing care to a group of patients Supervision of non-registered staff and students Two years post registration experience


Desirable

  • Demonstrate an involvement in link nurse, or project work Audit or research within the clinical Area Respiratory or Infectious Disease experience


Communication and Relationship skills

Essential

  • Demonstrate effective written and verbal communication skills Demonstrate basic IT skills


Desirable

  • Demonstrate Computer literacy & use of IT skills - e.g. e-mail, Excel, PowerPoint and Word Demonstrate evidence of providing teaching sessions Demonstration of team working and ability to work within a team


Analytical and Judgement skills

Essential

  • Demonstrate an ability to assess, plan, deliver, prioritise and evaluate patient care nurse role


Desirable

  • Demonstrate a knowledge of current issues related to the NHS


Planning and organisation skills

Essential

  • Demonstrate an ability to prioritise own workload and recognise, prioritise and respond appropriately to urgent and emergency situations


Desirable

  • Evidence of moving and handling training


Physical skills

Essential

  • Dexterity and accuracy in undertaking clinical skills, use of equipment and documentation Competent and capable of using medical equipment Able to undertake patient manual handling manoeuvres and non-patient manual handling Manoeuvres
