Specialist Screening Practitioner, The West London Bowel Cancer Screening Centre
We are looking for Specialists Screening Practitioners to join our team at the West London Bowel Cancer Screening Centre. Based at Charing Cross Hospital, we are a specialist team who deliver bowel cancer screening services, across 2 sites. As a specialist screening practitioner your role would be key in the co-ordination and provision of care to individuals participating in this national programme.
Main duties of the job
As an SSP it is mandatory to start the SSP course within one year of appointment. This course is provided by Liverpool John Moore's University. Support and mentorship will be provided during this period of study. You must successfully complete this course in order to continue working within the screening programme
You will be involved in assessing individuals in nurse led clinics, making decisions based on the outcomes of your assessment and planning their bowel cancer screening journey.
You will act as the individuals' advocate, providing information and support, empowering them and their family to make informed choices and decisions regarding their screening care, treatment and future participation in the screening programme.
As part of the multi-disciplinary team you will:
-work collaboratively with the London Hub, ensuring all patients are seen in a timely manner
- develop strong links with the Endoscopy Unit, through participation of the colonoscopy screening lists, users meetings and training
-attend colorectal MDTs, ensuring handover of care
Participate in a rolling programme of audits to demonstrate adherence to the programme standards
You will also be involved in health promotion activities within our local community to encourage uptake and participation in this national screening programme.

- Advanced Communication Course
- Teaching and Assessing qualification or equivalent experience

- 3 years post registration experience, which includes delivering care to patients with complexed needs
- Some experience of working in an endoscopy unit or colorectal/oncology environment
- Previous experience of working within a multi-disciplinary team
- Ability to practice within the scope of the NMC code of conduct

- Experience of working as an Specialist Screening Practitioner in the BCSP

- Experience in taking medical histories and completing assessments
